View Full Version : Datacities: Have they fixed their act?
mulder 06-06-2004, 11:27 PM I've read about the issues Datacities had a few months ago. Have these issues been resolved?
Has anyone signed up with them recently? If so, what's your experience?
Any feed back on LPanel? Uptime? Service and support?
Thanks,
Mulder
mulder 06-07-2004, 10:39 AM I guess they haven't. :)
Jojja 06-07-2004, 02:53 PM quite nice to hear a person asking if the issues are resolved, as opposed to disregarding a host because of some old problems though :D
mulder 06-07-2004, 03:43 PM Problems are ok if they are dealt with correctly. Their system might be better because of the issues they were having. :)
My current host has been great so far, minus some "little" down time yesterday. I just want to identify a few possible back up hosts in case I have any problems with my current host. My short list includes the highly recommended Hostgator (WHMAutopilt!!!) and the once troubled, but hopefully back on track Datacities (Lpanel!!!).

We have used lpanel for over 1000 customer signups this year, and it's been an overall good experience. The support has been slow at times, and each lpanel update has a new batch of bugs to be worked out, but their innovative design and extensive features keeps me using them instead of one of their competitor's scripts.
mulder 06-07-2004, 07:23 PM Interesting... any really bad customer interface bugs in the current version of LPabel? I could live with bugs on the admin side as the product matures but I dont want to lose customers because of buggy software.
Thanks,
Mulder

No nothing bad at the moment. The problems usually occur when lpanel does autoupdates (which can be a good thing) in the middle of the night, and I'll get up in the morning with several failed setup's due to bugs they didn't notice before releasing the build. Mostly all the bugs have been setup related. Once the account is set up, you don't need to worry about your clients using buggy software, I think they pretty well have that part figured out. What makes it difficult (and what all script writers have to deal with) is that other components such as cPanel and payment gateways are ever evolving. So a script that works today might not work tomorrow due to a cPanel build release, or a new IPN system from a payment processor. For example I continue to have problems with 2checkout sending random or multiple IPN's back to our server after a signup. For example today out-of-the-blue 2checkout sent 3 IPN's back to lpanel for a payment that was made 2 weeks ago, which subsequently set up another reseller account for the customer on a new server and sent him 3 new welcome emails without me even doing anything. You can imagine his surprise when he got those emails! This scenario isn't lpanel's fault though, it's just an example of something that happens.
mulder 06-08-2004, 10:15 AM Integrityhost, thanks for the info.
With only 2 paying customers (which are friends of mine) I am still in a position to change hosts, decide on billing software, create price plans, etc. All input is much appreciated. :)

mulder 06-08-2004, 04:35 PM http://www.datacities.com is down. That can't be good...
dcfrank 06-08-2004, 10:54 PM The site is up.
What time did you try to connect?
mulder 06-09-2004, 09:05 AM I tried to connect no more than 30min before my post.
When the home page came back up, I tired to access the forum and I think I got "Sorry the page does not exist".
BTW, I just saw your reply to my pre-sales question, thanks.

dcfrank 06-09-2004, 12:57 PM Welcome.
Yes datacities.com was under an attack (apache) which brought httpd down.
The forums were updated yesterday also.
Between the attacks and the updates you could of hit the site in between those times.
Sorry about that.

hostingvince 07-14-2004, 07:34 AM Eric,
Can you not switch autoupdates off within Lpanel?

mulder 07-19-2004, 10:52 AM Anyone using Data Cities now? I'd like to know if they are currently happy with the service and support.
