not to rag or anything, but...

pricewatch.com
$38 - PC133 512MB
$17 - PC133 256MB
$8 PC133 128MB
$3 - PC133 64MB

are those just standard company prices, because you can buy about 7 gigs of ram for the price of one of your 512?

You cant compare those prices.

Here are the memory prices from IBM:

That is for PC133 RAM, and not RDRAM though...

These systems are using ECC ram. So it's a bit more on the market then standard. It's not RDRAM though, just standard SDRam.

Also keep in mind that you can't compare a leased server's RAM upgrade prices to the lowest you can find on pricewatch, it don't work that way. You can decide they charge too much, but the host often marks up the price to make up (for various reasons), as they are a for-profit entity.

Nobody is talking about RDRAM? It's clealry stated SDRAM!

Anyway, the price of memory vary a lot. The cheapest price you found on pricewatch usually is just a brandless memory. Even the manufacture won't give you any warranty to it. The good memory is usually registered with ECC and this by no means is comparable (in price) to the cheapest modules you found in pricewatch (probably differ by a factor of 2-4). But anyway, yes ... the upgrade on memory is expensive ... But then look it at different angle. They do have warranty on their hardware, so in case if the memory fails, they can just swap it for you free ... Or, you can buy and send your own memory to be installed (well, at $xx/hour) and if that memory fails, you will need to buy another one to replace it, send it to them and pay another $xx/hour to install the new memory ... You get the picture?

cheers,
