View Full Version : on setting up and locking down

After some frustrating hours getting the basic system up, I believe I have a fully patched raq3 running raq4 with all the latest updates.

I believe, because of what it said during the install, that I have a raid array working (df -k shows about 30G total and there are 2 drives in it), and thus that it is 4r. However, the hardware says 3i on it..

Anyhow, here's my question:

I've downloaded and installed the patches, I've added what I could find at pkgmaster (most notably ssh), and disabled telnet.

Before I turn this loose in my rack, are there any other services I should turn off by default? Any patches that might not be on the sun or pkgmaster sites? What are people's recommendations about upgrading bind? My client doesn't need all the fancy stuff, any ideas about what to disable to improve the server's life?

Any advice apprecatied,

alex

what I'm wondering here about about the plaintext auth on the admin panel...

clearly I need to restrict this to an ip that I can only tunnel to... suggestions on this?

thanks,

A
