View Full Version : RedHat 7.1 freezes during instal (urgent..)

Hey everybody,

Several times during the install of RedHat Linux 7.1 on my laptop, it just completely locks up! It usually happens when I am deciding partitions.

CTRL + ALT + DEL doesn't work either, and I'm forced to turn off the power. And yes, I did try waiting it out. I've had to turn it off at least 10-12 times so far.. :( Would formatting it completely before I run install be good?

Any other ideas?

There's a way to get out of the graphical install, but I can't remember the exact keystroke.. ctrl+alt+backspace maybe.. ? Pretty sure thats it.. it will drop you to the behind the scenes command line stuff and you will probably be able to proceed with the install w/o any effects.. depending on whats going wacky of course.

HTH

Tried the text install

(boot: text [ENTER])

Oops! Didnt see your line about it crashing during the partition definition part... what I said above probably wont work. I would try reformatting like you said before I wasted time trying again..

Hmm, I dunno what I'm doing giving you advice but... Are you sure the cd ( I assume ) youre installing from is errorless? Have you tried a hard drive install... I'm done! ;)

Or did you mean a Win2k boot disk?? You dont want that.. its like 4 disks.. http://www.bootdisk.com has self extracting executables for all of the MS oses.. a Win 98 would probably be best.

you should be able to hit control-alt-f3 or control-alt-f4 during packages install and see what fails. also do NOT check the check for bad blocks when formatting partition. also a text install couldnt hurt if its a video card incompatibility issue. good luck
