Well, after dealing with hostopia.com for almost a year I have to say that I'm not very impressed.
Here are my problems and I'm hoping that Franc (Hostopia.com President) will either respond or look into these issues because I have had no luck dealing with them directly.
1. Hostopia Support ~ almost non existent. Not only is it definitely NOT 24/7 they seem to be somewhat incompetent. Their email responses always take a while if at all and the response is usually useless. I don't think that they know what is going on with their system as it seems that there support answers are not complete or they need system admin to answer.
They definitely need to implement a support ticket system as they sometimes never respond. With that ticketing system they also need to put support guarantees in place so there is something to keep them working hard. The answers come late if at all and are usually incomplete.
2. .ASP and Cold Fusion ~ don't be fooled by this "great" system. It does not work as well as it should. Having a "hybrid solution which serves web pages on our UNIX/Apache platform and parses .asp and .cfm pages via our integrated NT system" is not a good solution. Not only does everything work differently than a regular web host but the support staff can't seem to run it. Their DSN name creation is specific to their system as we have had all of our clients that are transferring over have to make a ton of scripting changes to suit their system.
3. Miva ~ Miva Shopping Carts and Hostopia.com do not work.... slow slow slow. That's all I have to say.
4. General Problems ~ today I was having problems with hostopia's Miva shopping cart, stats program, real server install and control panel numbers. This is the response that I received from them:
Hi
For disk usage, please go by the lower of the 2 numbers, as we are looking into the situation and it seems that 2 readings are being made for the disk usage, hence the doubled number.
Check the Miva portion for the site domainname.com as there was a small hiccup in the system, but it is resolved now.
I have already emailed you on the real server issue, the domain was activated for the service. Sorry for the delay.
Stats for domains are being reviewed by our sys admins and programmers, so everything should be working soon.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us.

Subject: still waiting . . . .
Hello Support?
We are still waiting for responses to the follow issues:
1. domainname.com
Please confirm:
domainname.com disk usage says 80 MB's in the hostOS
but
domainname.com disk usage says 159.9MB's in the clients control panel
-Which is correct?
-either way, why is the client aloud to go over the allotted 75MB's?
-Why the discrepancy between the 2 control panels?
2. domainname2.com
- Miva Errors
- Miva running slowly?
3. domainname3.com
Please give domainname3.com access to the shared real server system. (this is taking way too long to get setup, please do it asap)
4. domainname4.com
Can you check the stats for domainname4.com. I tried to see the hits but it only showed one for December. I visited it in November. Maybe I did something wrong. Thanks.
Thanks
Many problems with hostopia.com...... We are not happy customers. (not to mention that they are in direct competition with all of the hostopia.com resellers by having bluegenesis.com in existence but that is another subject for another time.
I'm hoping that by writing this Franc will look into his support issues as well as implement a support ticketing system that emails the clients with a ticket number. (similar to Alabanza's system)
