My site TFC Central - www.tfc-central.co.uk - will soon be needing a new host. My requirements are as follows:

PHP 4 + MySQL
Domain Name hosting (for my existing domain)
Minimum 50 MB of space
Enough bandwidth to sustain reasonably high traffic - aprox. 2,000 hits a day

How much should I be looking to pay for that kind of package and where would be a good place to get it?

Those requirements would be enough to keep the site running as it exists at the moment. However, something I have always wanted to do is to provide files for download. The files I am iunterested in serving are custom maps for the game TFC (which are usually between 500KB and 2 MB in size) and game demos (which are usually about 11 MB). I have no idea how popular such files would be - what are the best guidelines to look at for bandwidth costs? I'm on a very limited budget (no more than 20 or 30 dollars a month), baring that in mind would it be feasible for me to host those kinds of files?

Any information or pointers greatly appreciated :)

Cheers,

Simon

Well, say you have an account with 5Gb, and the average page size is around 100Kb, that is sufficient for around 50,000 hits per month.

Now, if you say that you are going to get 2000 hits per day, and you will also be offering downloads for file sizes that large, you're gonna need to get a dedicated server. Probably best bet is Rackshack because they give you 300gb per month.

Mind you, if your budget is only 20-30 dollars per month, a servers out of the question. Expect around 350mb+ and 15Gb+ for that price range on a virtual account.

Good luck in your search for a host :)
