Hi all,

I'm thinking about getting a domain name for personal use (i.e. family site & email). Unfortunately all the best ones involving my surname are gone :bawling:

So we have narrowed it down to 4 and I would appreciate your opinions as we can't decide which to go with!!

They are:

surnameonline.net (surname could be plural)
surnameonthe.net (again surname could be plural)
surnamedomain.net
the-surnames(as in plural!).net (not keen on hyphen though!)

Remember this is only for a personal/family site & e-mail.

Any opinions would be appreciated!!

try looking at alternative extensions, such as: .us. If com/net/org are taken, there are others. For businesses I would recommend finding .com, but since this is just personal, no harm really done if you use some crazy extension nobody has heard about. Only friends/family will be going there anyways.

since it is for personal email usage....have you ever consider localized form -- ccTLD??

yeah consider other TLDs such as .info or .name :)

how about surnamefamily.com? you could also use other extensions besides com on that too.

Instead of trying your surname try your street number and address like

999letsbeavenue.com/net/org etc.....

Just an idea. (not as good but easily remembered).

check out dd24.net for exotic extensions.
then try .cx, .tk, .to, .st, .sh, .ac, and finally .io
I am confident you will find find something... :cool:

What about:

thesurnames.com
surname.[country code]
eSurname.com
surnamecorner.com
surname-corner.com

-or-

Pick out a domain name that means sonething to your family - natioanality, family joke, nickname, something unique to your family...

:bawling: yep even lastname.name is taken and no it's not a famous name, just extremely common (and a pain in the....)!!

what about Flastname.com (first initial lastname dot com) also taken?

a combo i wouldn't recommend firstname-lastname.com i the names are short..

yep taken! This is depressing!!

Anyway, I've figured out why I'm having such a hard time - netidentity.com has got all the good ones such as surname.com (or .net etc) and surnamenet.com (etc). And as for .name I'm not allowed to use it because it's being used on the 3rd level domains (and yes, my name has gone!) :bawling: It's not fair!

very bad luck, i'd say search for new ccTLD like .ws or .st or even .LA if you live in LA :D

Unfortunately I'm not in LA! :(

Well, I'll keep searching - I'm currently looking at .ws (it's not looking great would you believe!!)

For example Adam12345678.Com

One good reason to select this would be your friends and family who know your name and phone number will easily recall your domain address.
