View Full Version : Free Hosting Software needed
netneurones 12-03-2001, 12:09 PM I want to take a rack from rackshack
Put a software on it for freehosting
with a wizard
And start getting people popping in.
Can anyone help.
Already seen Homefree, BuildACommunity.
Anything else?
Sounds like a business plan from the mid 90's.
I have WebHome if you need it. The only problem is that its really crappy and security is crappy too. I would suggest taking WebHome and modifying it heavily.

netneurones 12-03-2001, 02:39 PM On the island where I live, we are still in the 1990's at least in the field of Internet... Uptil now we have only ONE ISP for 1200000 inhabitants
Welcome to Mauritius !
bobcares 12-03-2001, 02:55 PM Mauritius is a lovely place. Any idea if outsiders can start an establishment there.
I always dream of having an office is a place like Mauritius or Fiji.... ;)
Coming to the thread... why not try some community plugins such as everyone.net. This may help.... :)
Have a great day :)

netneurones 12-03-2001, 11:24 PM What do you mean by establishment... The rate of change US$/RS is 1:31. Which means that The Mauritian Rupee is not worth that much ;( Mauritius is a great place to live but don't expect to win fortunes.
bobcares 12-04-2001, 03:33 AM Hi!
What I wanted to know was how much would it cost to set up and office say of 5000 sq. feet.
Is it easy to get good engineers there. Also what about facilities such as good banks, leased lines etc...
Have a great day :)
regards
amar
netneurones 12-04-2001, 09:38 AM Go to http://ncb.intnet.mu for info about Mauritius IT sector. Do a search on google for Mauritius Telecom Lease lines for prices. Don't be surprised by the price of the lease lines. As for Engineers, it all depends on what you consider to be "good".
davidb 12-04-2001, 04:01 PM Hi, www.solutionscripts.com, check out homefree
Skeptical 12-05-2001, 04:02 AM I'm warning you. Don't use Solutionscripts. They have tons of bugs and will won't answer your trouble tickets nor your calls for help. There are outstanding bugs that haven't been fixed for over a year!
Skeptical, I respectfully disagree.... HomeFree is a solid product with great features. From what I hear, the new version is coming out rather soon and looks promising. As for the other programs, I have heard good things about Build a Community but very few comments about WebHome.

Whens their the next version of HomeFree coming out? Will it have ftp access? It's really hard to find good freehost software with secure ftp access. Why should any of use have to customize and reprogram any freehost scripts ourselves? What are the programmers at homefree and such companys payed for?
They must drink coffee and play games all day at the office.
davidb 12-06-2001, 01:22 PM You can hack homefree to use ftp, I did it. But Ted and SolutionScripts have been saying the new versions been comming out for what, over a year now.

More like 2+ years of broken deadlines.
But yeah, I've seen the new beta and it looks pretty cool. The thing I worry about is the fact that Tim of Solutionscripts often disappear for months and don't fix bugs nor answer support tickets. He's a talented guy, but I just don't think he's totally committed to his projects all the time, unlike the vBulletin guys.
As for ftp functionality I think you'll have to hack that in yourself. I don't think Tim deals with C code.
