I am starting up a hosting company, and i think it would be a good idea to sell domain names along with the packages.

so how/where would i get a license (or whatever you need) to resell domains? i would also like to know all the costs involved and the cheapest/best company

you can start as a reseller since 'registrar' is a BIG word

there is many options you can start off like buying ready made software like dramsystem.com or whoiscart.net or get an enom reseller account and use their registryrocket or PDQ services.

i vote for enom since so many easy options to use for resell domains, some people vote for directi since they are lil cheaper and almost copying enom options of reseller programs :)

I agree. Especially the recent news on proposed ICANN fee hikes would devestate anyone who wanted to become accredited. A reseller is the smart choice.

We use itsyourdomain and love it. Nice system, they handle billing, works well.

Also have a bulkregister account... nice for pretty cheap domains if yo usignup for thier VASP and gives you complete control over domain records, really useful I must say. You can change handles, handle info, registers, NS ip numbers all within under 24 hours.

so many horror story about itsyourdomain about locking domains and not letting customers to control their domains.

just search the forum and read..

Why would you think that? Unless you are selling names for .25 cents over cost the impact will be limited

At $19,000+ per year for basic ICANN fees, you'd have to sell enough domain names at a reasonable profit just to break even. That's irrespective of the 25-cent per-domain fee.

and then there is the cost of being able to register different TLDs, and server(s) for your registrar (and of course many other things but I won't keep going).

In the new budget, the $19,000 covers all TLDs.
