I just got my servers up this weekend, and have been configuring them. Without going into long detail....

Three out of four servers has RH 7. with kernel 2.4.5

The fourth has RH 7.2 with kernel 2.4.7 with ipchains

The fourth server was to be the 'company' server. All four servers are comparable in the amount of memory, processor, HD type, etc....

For some reason the fourth server's websites are served super slow, in comparison to the same site on the other servers

The only difference is ipchains the fourth server has ipchains.

if you would like to see the difference in load time checkout

67.105.247.135 - slow server
67.105.247.134 - fast server (sorry domain name isn't up yet)

Any suggestions would be great. Maybe i'm missing something obvious, it's been a long weekend.

I'm thinking about just putting 7.0 on the fourth server, and upgrading the kernel. Thats what I did on the others, and it worked great.

Thanks
Jay.

Neither were slow - but I have a 1.5/384 DSL connection.

huh, ok. thanks for checking it out.

Maybe i'm going nuts over here.

I have a dsl line at my house too, but for some reason it seemed to load alot slower.

How about if one of the IP's was unresolved. Would this cause a difference in performace if either the server or browser was spending too much time trying to resolve the ip?

We have a leased line. Both came down at the same speed for us.
However, as the two OS versions are different. There could be a change because of the following reason.
1) The way two kernals work.
2) As you mentioned IPchains... However this is not a major factor.
3) The services running on the two servers This is the most important thing to see
4) The webserver settings.
5) Reasons unknown....

Have a great day :)
