View Full Version : This is something everybody should see.

It's a 7 MB load. And it is worth it. After loading it you will be presented with a flash movie almost 10 minutes long.
All I can say is that I was deeply impressed.
I found it while checking out the site of a new customer to see if he moved in without any problems. This one is just should not stay hidden in some subdirectory.
Unflappable 12-02-2001, 06:09 PM Could you give a better idea of what it's a tribute to before we download? Like, I'll be miffed if it's a Tribute to the Girls of Hooters or something. ;)
Rewdog 12-02-2001, 06:11 PM That guy on the second row first page was in web hosting magazine!

Nice enough if you want to see something like that, but if you want to see a showcase of Flash skills, you should know that it's not really that. It's pretty basic, pretty much just a slideshow with background music interspersed with sound clips from news broadcasts. Some of the use text is distractingly jarring. As for the download time, that could probably be improved by using a short preloader. This movie should stream pretty easily, because the bandwidth requirements should be pretty flat.
driverdave 12-02-2001, 07:02 PM God that was depressing. I only watched like 15 seconds of it and had to close it. Very depressing.
I am petrified to fly.
Pilgrim 12-02-2001, 07:03 PM The quality of the movie and the skills the programmer are not important imho. It's not a showcase

bullsquirrel 12-02-2001, 11:35 PM I think I've seen enough September 11 documentaries and memorials to last me for quite a while...I don't mean to sound numb or insensitive, it's just that the media has done an ample job of saturating the airwaves with those horrors.
I don't think any of us will forget (at least I hope not)...
:(
alchiba 12-03-2001, 12:17 AM I was impressed by it as well. It's a nicely done montage that sums up the events about as well you're likely to see. The Enya soundtrack is fittingly haunting.
SoftWareRevue 12-03-2001, 01:04 AM Although one could never forget the tragic events of September 11, 2001, it doesn't hurt to be painfully reminded.
I just returned from a business trip to New York. And I must admit; I am impressed with the strength of resolve from the people.
Everyone I met during my five day stay, was helpful and kind. I had always heard of New Yorkers being . . . . . well . . . . New Yorkers.
When I commented to some that their attitude was strikingly different than I had anticipated; they all had the same answer.
"September 11 everything and everyone changed"
bullsquirrel 12-03-2001, 03:05 AM Sad that it takes something so tragic to bring the best out of us. But at least some good will have come out of it, I suppose.
I wonder how crime is in NYC since Sept. 11? Think it has picked back up? Or maybe wasn't effected at all? It always interests me how sometimes even the fringe of society can show some empathetic traits, given a shocking enough event.
mahinder 12-03-2001, 07:04 AM i am on 56 k dail up and it will never load properly. :bawling:
Dylan 12-03-2001, 10:24 PM I hope you going to give this chap some free transfer :D
Pilgrim 12-03-2001, 10:52 PM Hahah, yeah definatly. This one is on the house :)
That would be a cruel joke. Inviting hundreds of people to view his page and cash lots of $$ for the bandwidth overage. :D
No worries ;)
Skeptical 12-04-2001, 12:34 AM What a long download.

"September 11 everything and everyone changed" Well, as a New Yorker I certainly wouldn't disagree with that. Much has obviously changed. But really I've always truly believed that New Yorkers are every bit as friendly as people anywhere, by and large. I've seen it everyday; and long before 9/11 -- people helping strangers, people who don't know each other developing instant comaraderie over something that happens in the street...
The New Yorker's bad rep was built only because the place is so darned crowded, and life is so fast! People here don't think it's rude not to acknowledge every person you pass on the street, like you would in a small town, because it's just impossible. People here don't think it's rude to speak quickly and brusquely, because everyone does it.
Once you adjust to life in New York, you'd find it to be as friendly a place as any, and safer than very many as well.
Quill 12-04-2001, 06:11 AM This is way too much, I'm getting tired of these images and stories. Newspapers, Magazines, Internet Sites, Television, Radios, Schools, Restaurants, Cafes, everywhere.... people keep talking about September 11, 2001.
Depressing....:(
Skeptical 12-04-2001, 02:22 PM What I'd like to see now is some slow motion closeups of an U.S. missile flying into a Taliban hell hole and watch as they explode into pieces of raw meat... in very very slow motion. :)
