I recently switched to site5 (site5.com) for hosting my domain (deling.net) and now my site has been down along with my friends, for 3 days straight not to mention frequently down before that. This place is a rip off, they charge 14 + a month for their basic package and that's only if you purchase a year of hosting, if you dont its almost 20 dollars. Now with this comes the usual perks, but overall its given me less space and now its been down all the time. I cannot believe this, I had better hosting at web solo which was only 10 bucks a month and had 300 more mb of space. What the hell is wrong with these people!?

I don't know what's going on. I also have an account with Site 5, my problem is the FTP isn't working! I haven't seen a site 5 staff member on the forums today at all! They aren't telling us what's wrong with the servers.

I'm getting worried!

I would like to add that we made the worst decission moving to site5 back in July of this year.

We purchased a dedicated server, and on the average, the server crashes about every 2 wks.!

We have to been told numerious times that it would be fixed,
that there was problems, with either the RAM, the Harddrive,...etc... they don't know and just keep dragging their feet fixing the problem!

There support is the WORSE I've ever seen in the industry! Normally response time is maybe 2 days in most cases. If it's an emergency.... you may get a response back within a day!

If you've even remotely consider using Site5 for hosting....DON'T!! As soon as we can find another hosting company... we are gone.

Hi!
site5 is up. So I guess there is nothing wrong with the NOC or the routers..
The server where your account is may be down.

Have a great day:)

I've also signed up with Site5 in July, but jumped the boat after only two months, just in time. The features they offer are great, however, support isn't! My site was twice suspended for "exhaustive consumption of server resources" (I assume), I was never told what really happened. I, as customer, felt very much ignored. Pity...

my site is still down... Is there anything like a list of really bad hosting companies? I mean it seems like every place I go with is lacking in some way :(

maybe because people kept on recommending site5 so thats why the customer numbers shoot up and cannot handle?

I've never used Site5 for hosting, but even if what you said was the case it's their responsibility to upgrade their hardware to compensate for the amount of clients they have.

If their cliental doubled over night they should still take the necessary steps to double their hardware if they can’t handle it.

The server which one of my friend's domains is on is down yet again, this has been happening at least once a week, stretching for hours to a day, and at the WORST times (high traffic, maintenance needed)..

Site5 was once good but its time for us all to ship out :X

Their no-phone customer service is the most retarded thing..

I am also a Site5 customer, but my experience so far is at odds with others. i.e. I do not believe they are falling apart, delivering crappy service, etc.

A couple machines at Site5 shared services do appear to be having a run of problems to be sure. Even the box my site is on was/is having some intermittent difficulty as well although not to the extent that another shared box is having problems.

From what I can tell, the issues appear to be par for the course, for most any web hosting firm.

Problems happen. What's important is how they deal with them.

I have been impressed with the focus of Site5 staff on resolving issues. Despite what others may feel, I prefer the site hoster to be focussed on solving problems rather than being held slave to the forums, diverting valuable resource time away from the real problems.

My guess is that staff were swamped and being mere mortal humans, prioritized, since they couldn't do everything at once.

my two cents...

My $.02 as well.

Just to add a bit, I've been a web hosting consumer since 1996 and I have been with many hosts throughout the years. Good and bad alike. I've never been with a host that hasn't had problems and I never will be with a host unfamiliar to problems. Neither will any of you as technical difficulties are apart of the industry. Feel free to tell me otherwise and proceed to tell me how your host is so wonderful, you've never had downtime, never lost a file, never had to re-upload, never had a problem of any sorts etc. etc. etc.... stay there long enough and trust me you'll encounter one, or two, or three.

Unfortunately, I've only been with one host that knew how to handle problems properly and professionally at the same time... fortunately, it's my current host... Site5.

I won't lie, I've thought about jumping ship many times due to the problems I've had with Site5, namely to: QWK, Ventures Online, and HostRocket. I was just thinking about switching to QWK yesterday and tempted to switch to HostRocket today. I decided otherwise because I honestly have doubts that the three hosts I just named could provide the customer support I've received from Site5. If I'm wrong... prove it to me.

Lastly, yes... I know I've jumped up to defend Site5 just about everytime they've come under fire, but trust me... I'm not a guy they "have on the inside" so to speak. I'm just a customer who will tell it to you like it is from what I've personally experienced.

my favourite host which gave me no problems at all is tierranet.com I stayed there for like 3 years before I move out (I applied the subdomain so I had to move out to do my own domain as their new plans were very very expensive)

Expensive though, but no problems at all ;)
