TNR must be the most annoying font around! Argh.... too many sites use it; they would look so much better using Arial or Verdana!

Me too, I love the Arial-Font, write everything with it.

Break the TNR Rule, use Arial *g*

Have you tried to change your browser's defaults? You can select a different default font that will change anything not specified in the html. That should get rid of the times fonts a bit for you :)

And yes I'm in agreement.. never been a fan of that one either. Arial and Verdana (for small text)..

The only problem with that is you will never know when a site sucks ;)

Plus it would automatically change it to Verdana 14pt or size 3. Have you ever seen Verdana at that size? It's hudge! :)

I played around with altering the default font, but I didn't like it much, as everything looked.... weird. And yeah, you wouldn't be able to tell a TNR site when you came accross one :)_

I hate Times New Roman, too - it is only good for printing and how it looks on paper. :)

TNR has its place...although I do agree it tends to be overused far too much. But if Arial or Verdana were the default fonts for IE, we'd be getting sick of those instead! ;)

I hate TNR!

I was doing a site for the company I work for, and the marketting guy insisted the WHOLE site was done in TNR!
urrrrrgh I was :argue: with them for ages over it :/

Oh, and apparently, web surfers hate scrolling down a page - they want the whole site to fit to one page.

Actually, usability studies do show that to be true. Anything the user has to scroll to in order to see is much less likely to actually be seen.

Really? :)

I HATE PowerPoint Style websites :)
I do agree a little - I would hate a site that scrolls down 2-3 times the screen size.

I try to limit scrolling as much as possible in all of my site designs, but sometimes it's just impossible.

I don't mind scrolling vertically, but horizontal scrolling really annoys me!

Horizontal scrolling? yikes!
I love Trebuchet MS, much much better than Verdana!

The Georgia font looks much nicer than Times New Roman, if you have to use a serif font. I've used Georgia for some of my journal layouts. There used to be a webclique called "Times New Roman sucks!"

Verdana is my bitch :D

my vote goes to Trebuchet also... but Arial is always good.

Horizontal scrolling is crazy. . .no one should ever have that.

Vertical isn't too bad as long as you don't scroll past your website twice...scrolling half the size of your page is ok.

Me too. I luv Bananas myself. Just kidding. :D :D

I love Verdana. I use it in all my pages. Yeah that and Georgia, although some people seem to lack support for Georgia.

verdana is the $#!^ , I never really under stood TNR myself. On the subejct it depends on what you sit up I seen this really cool site awhile back that they intentionally set up so it scrolled horizontly and it really was cool. So Like everything else it depends on how it used.

I've taken to using Georgia myself on a lot of my clients' sites...but I wonder how many people have that font installed?? I thought it was pretty common, until I went over to a client's office to do some consulting work, and none of their workstations even have Georgia!!

Real men use Arial. TNR just plain sucks. If I encounter it on an otherwise good site, I will leave if I am there to read a large amount of information. It's just wrong. But in a book or similar environment it is fine. Its home is a book. Not the web. Web bad book good. Book not bad web not good. So awful on web makes me sick ugh.

Just now I have decided to write a poem on this topic. Enjoy poem.

Times New Roman by appletreats
On the web it is not good
It puts me in a bad mood
But in a book it is OK
In a book it makes my day

Wow, that was really bad. I apologize to those who read it. Also to those who read any other part of this low quality post.

Studies have shown apparently that people find it easier to read a serif rather than a sans serif font. They also read serif fonts faster, and for the same reason. The serif leads the eye from letter to letter and word to word.

To those who work with computers in a vairety of aspects, sans serif fonts may seem more natural but for the majority of the popularion, serif fonts are prefered.

I agree on the scrolling issue. I try to make my pages so they are at most a single PageDown in length.

TNR isn't so bad as seeing an entire "business" site done in MS Comic Sans :)
