i intend to start some affiliate program, i've learnt:

dot5hosting.com pays $70.00 Per affiliate sale.
lunarpages.com pays $52.00 Per affiliate sale.

i was just wondering, how do you know if a sale is made by affiliate? can one person sign up the affiliate program, and then buy a hosting package for them own and save money?

and how much would you pay for affiliate sales? don't you think 70 per sale is too high...?

thanks.

did you read the information on it? Some host require that the person stays for so long, like 3 or 4 months at least. I haven't look at there site so i don't know.

i know, but wat if i'm just a customer want a hosting package, the package itself is about 80 per year, pay back to affiliate is 70, if i sign up affilicate program first, then sign up their hosting package, din't i just pay 10 dollars actually?

neorder,

That would most likely be a violation of the affiliate agreement with many hosts.

neorder,

I don't know about others but we provide our affiliates with individual urls and place cookies on visitors that came through that url. That way if they purchase either then or down the road we know which affiliate we should be paying. For sales offline, our client questionairre is part of the process for determining which affiliate gets the money.

$70 and $52 per sale isn't bad at all, imo. Are you sure that your income per sale is a set rate and not a percentage of the sale? (which is what we do)

Doesn't seem right though. Dot5hosting costs $5/month. Assuming pure profit, it'd take them over a year to make back their money!

i know it's not right to take advantage like that.

the thing is i know affilicate works great and wanted to start some programs like that, i'm just trying to figure out how to manage the process.

how do you differentiate real affilicated customers and ppl who want to take that advantage? I can't think of a way to differentiate...can they use different credit card to sign up affilicate program and buy hosting services?

Cassius, what program do you use? and i agreed the pay out base on percentage is better, what's your rate then? i don't think a 80% rate would be good, it's kinda like host for free.

Intersabre, i doubt dot5hosting would be that stupid...:cartman:

neorder,

We developed a proprietary application to do it for us. I remember doing research on commercial and open-source apps to do it a long while back but unfortunately I don't remember any of the software names we looked at. Sorry.

I hope I can answer your question on the forum. Someone please let me know if it should be removed....

We determine our rates using two factors.
1-4 sales/month = 20% of monthly cost and setup costs
5+ sales/month = 25% of monthly cost and setup costs

Though we exclude the cost of our Windows operating systems costs from the 'setup costs' (we charge for Windows OSs on setup). Affiliate income typicall ends up being around $60-$70/sale.

I hope that helps.
