To allow coldfusion on my server, what version do I need to install.
I know they have the developers version as well as a paid version.
I am hoping the developers will suffice.
Am I incorrect on this assumption.

Yaser provided a helpful link. To answer your specific question, the free developers version is just for your testing and will not work in a production environment. You can't host multiple CF sites with it. Which version you use will depend upon your customers needs. They have developed a version for the Unix and Windows platform. There is a strong debate umong CF developers and admins as to which is the best way to go. Personally I think it is best to put it on a windows box. Many CF Developers like to use .net on their sites and prefer to use MSSQL. It can be kind of trickey to admin at times though. I wouldn't just put it on your server and hope it runs by itself. You will have to decide which tags and how much flexibility you will allow in a shared environmnet. CF Developers can be pretty pickey in how they want you to run the server. I would gain a strong understanding of the CF language and security implications before going live with it. CF is great and I hope it brings you new customers.

I am a cold fusion developer, and I much prefer a windows box for our needs. We use CFMX on a Windows 2000 platform, with MSAccess DB connectivity. Does everything I need :)
