What program would one use to extract just the musical [no lyrics] from a song?
Thanks.

Do you mean you want to get only the instrumental version form a song, called negative? So what you basicly need is to remove the voice of the singer, right?;)

There are a few programs that can do that for you, but the success rate is only about 20%, there isn't a really software on the market that can provide you with that.

The best results you get only if you have the original track, recorded in the studio, in .wav or .dat extension.

If it's an .mp3, you have no chance of removing the voice whatsoever, as it's coded into the song.

But you could consider a piece of hardware that can do that, but it comes with a price tag of about $1,500.

Long time I bought one of those for my recording studio, but seems I missplaced it somewhere along the years

The way you do it is by filtering out certain frequencies of the sound that are most common to voice. They make Karaoke machines that do this so you can put in a standard cd and it will filter the voice frequencies leaving *mostly* just the music.
