View Full Version : ancient military tactics
Bllatt 05-25-2004, 06:38 PM does anyone know of some sites that have outlined information on the military tactics of the time of alexander the great, the romans or persians?
I have to find diagrams of the formations of the troops.
also tactics on how to breach a city wall and infiltrate a fortified citty.
does anyone of any sites that might deal with something like that ?
Xshare 05-25-2004, 06:54 PM Google. A simple search of "Roman military tactics" "greek military tactics" or "Persian military tactics" should work, no?

i have tried searching for a long time but the problem is that the results that pop up all deal with age of empires and other videos games and have no bearing to reality. i need to find something which is historically correct so i was wondering if anyone knows of a site that deals with such subject matter

Xshare 05-25-2004, 07:12 PM EDIT> On second thought, after doing all that work, I think you should do it yourself.
I posted here everything you needed, but just erased it.
I kept a copy of everything I found. And I found alot. On simple google searches for those phrases. Do your own homework.
oonth 05-25-2004, 07:16 PM Perhaps he has spyware preventing him from seeing the right results?
I would not jump on someone's back without knowing the complete issue he's having googling;)
(Stephen) 05-25-2004, 07:19 PM I have numerous history books that outline the tactics used throughout the years in military. Truthfully, it is a lot like society, 100 yuears from now certain tactics will resurfaces as successful, and then die away, and resurface again later.
Or..........Just watch some John Wayne movies! :D :D

i did not understand that Then you didn't do the search, did you? :)
Don't forget, by the way, the minus operator to exclude pages that contain a certain word from your results. If you try your search on the terms xshare mentioned and exclude some terms the stuff you're looking for is easy to find.

(Stephen) 05-25-2004, 09:15 PM I would recommend going to www.spybot.info if you went to www.google.com and did not find those results, you probably have some spyware changing your results. :D

As sailor said The Art of War by Sun Tzu is a classic military book. It was written before its time and many famous generals and commanders utilise its theries, many real world applications also.
