Hello. I'm just getting started with my first advertising campaign, but I'm having some real trouble with my ad's CTR. I had a really great one done ( <edit> ), who could guess it'd have a 0'04% CTR! And it was on a good computer/webmaster realted sites network... :(

I wasn't really expecitng the ad's CTR to be a problem, does anyone have any experience with banner ad campaigns?

BTW-I'm testing a new ad today ( <edit> ), I hope this one will get a higher CTR, but if the other one (that looked so much better) had 0'04% I have no idea what'll happen!..
One advice I got, and am using in this new ad, is not to mention pricing (looks like that increases CTR, don't ask me why)

Well, does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!

Your ads arent half bad :)
Nice even. You might want to make them a bit more lively and colorful, aside from that they're very nice! See how other people do it though to get a better idea of what im talking about.

Secondly, mentioning prices IS A GOOD idea. Mention your lowest plan etc.

About your CTR ratio. That could be due to the place where you're advertising. Where is it? (if you dont mind my asking :))

41KB

Your CTR is incorrect because no one would wait for your add to load!

Also using words like "heaps" wont do you any favours.

But generally speaking, banner advertising does seem to result in very low CTR these days.

Woah! 41KB now thats insane.

And like Magic says dont use words like

'tons'
'heaps'
'generous'

blah blah blah ;)

Well, in the first test, most people stayed in seing the page for over 1 minute, so I don't think it didn't load ;)

I thought 'heaps' and 'generous' would look kind of bad, but I couldn't think of anything better :)! Any suggestions?
Maybe I'll use that one with the pricing too, but still if anyone thinks of good words to replace 'heaps' and 'generous', or even a whole new text, please let me know!!

Thanks!

Hi, have you crunched your banners with an image reducer? The load time could be cut by half or so with only minimal adjustments to your image quality. I believe the goal of banners is to not exceed 10-12 k.

Dont forget, there are dialup users. I'm one and the time it took to load the image was hideous ;)

Asher.

Yea, maybe it didn't load, that could be it.. Anyway, the new ad is 18k, and everything now on will be less than 15k...

btw-I noticed you edited my post to remove the ad URLs... Can I post the ads as attachements? I was hoping someone could suggest a replacement for the words heaps and generous on my ad...

How about oodles? Or gobs? Or "A host of luscious <insert product or service here>"?

If that doesn't work, look in to getting one of these: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0375425594/qid=1007237877/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_78_1/002-7949114-1023239 It comes in handy when writing copy.

You might be able to get a away with posting your banners in the Website Reviews section (for critiquing purposes, of course).
