Hello,

For a CPanel dual xeon server, I'm looking for a stable os that will stay alive for a few years :)

I'm currently looking to order RHE which is $349. Howver, I'm unsure wether this is a yearly recurring fee or a one time fee. And is "unlimited" months acces to RHN for updates included?

Also, please share your experience with WhiteBox Linux or CentOS.

Thank you!

I believe this is a yearly fee for RHE. There is some argument as to whether you can buy 1 license and install it on several machines as long as you don't ask for support on those machines, there are conflicting reports from Redhat's own sales force apparently on the allowability of this.

I've been using CentOS on cpanel boxes for about 2 weeks now and so far so good. Absolutely no complaints!

I have a CentOS server with Plesk 7.0.2 running perfectly!
I find it very stable.

CentOS? Does it have an auto update feature like up2date you can put into cron? Logging into multiple servers to do updates when a new package is released is simply a pain.

CentOS is not really another distribution, it's a repacked distribution of RHEL. They don't include the commercial packages, they replace redhat logos with centos ones, and change the license and such.

Other than that, everything is the same -- the packages are nearly the same (updated a few hours after they are released for RHEL)

So, yes, up2date (and a better one, yum) are included, although you can use whatever you like -- package management is not exclusive to RedHat.

Any info about CentOS's EOL?

I'm not sure what you're exactly interested in. End of Life refers to a product's stop in support. CentOS currently comes with no proposed support, only that of the community. Since the updates made to CentOS are only repackaged updates of RHEL, you can probably expect the patches to continue as Redhat releases them. If you could be more specific in your concerns, maybe I could answer your question more completely.

Redhat promises to provide updates for RHEL for at least 5 years, so as long as the centos community is still kicking by then, you should continue to receive product updates for the version 3 branch for that same time period.
