What with recent spyware scares and the constant scanning for illegal files by the RIAA, Sony, BMI etc, I was wondering how many of you use PeerGuardian.

For those of you who don't know, PeerGuardian attempts to block any unauthorised scans of your hard drive.  You do see a lot of attempted scans ranging from MSN, to Spyware to Sony, to VX Studios.  All of them are attempting to find out what is on your hard drive.

Do you really want everyone to know exactly what is contained on your drive?  Do you keep personal files on there? Then use PeerGuardian to keep the RIAA/BMI OUT and make a stand.

Whilst PeerGuardian is made by a strong group of individuals who're actually trying to get the RIAA blocked from as many websites as possible, this really is a truly useful piece of kit.  Especially used in conjunction with your firewall & virus scanner.

Makes you wonder how many times a day (when you are their and away, sleeping) it gets scanned. Though their is a simple way to do it when you are away or sleeping (unplug everything ;) ) Though I am going to try this to see how it work.

I'm probably going to give it a try... does it interfere with AV applications? For instance, can you set it to allow certain apps to have access to the hdd?

Yeah, it has a blocklist which is updated every few days with the "bad IP ranges". You can obviously allow connections to port 80, set it to give you live warnings etc.

http://www.bluetack.co.uk Was the old site, but now it just links to research pages & the download.
