Does anyone know how to bind additional IP addresses to the DNS server. We have a customer who has 3 IP addresses; one is assigned to the actual server via the front control and they would like to use the two other IPs for DNS.

Ideas?

In the Cobalt CP:

Select Control Panel then Network at the top

Sorry Rackmy.com. My fault. Didn't read that it was your CUSTOMER. Thought it was your RAQ main site...If so then you just change Primary DNS Server Address and Secondary.

In my eyes you are a Windows host, therefore I thought you needed help with a really basic thing with a RAQ :)

Or after reading again...Is it their own server??? If so you just specify the IP:s in Primary DNS Server Address and Secondary and that's it.

No prob :) They want to add two IP addresses to their own DNS server instead of using the IP assigned to the server. They cannot get those two IP address to bind to the DNS server and answer request.

Thanks :)

unfortunately, cobalt DNS will only respond to DNS on the eth0:0 ip address, it doesn't bind to all IP addresses installed on the machine. Kind of a pain, but I see *why* they do it.

That is why I never never never manage primary DNS on a cobalt.

So the answer is to set your first site up on the raq as their management interface call it ns1 or whatever because all services will be based off of this site/ip address combination. Even on services that require a specific IP address (think opensrs -security) it will be the ip address of eth0:0.

That is the IP address that you must register to be the nameserver.
