)Lady Lovelace proposed punched card sequences.

)Babbage’s engine was similar to computers because it had an input an storage and something that went between the two.

)Herman’s tabulating machine was not hand powered. It was powered by electricity.

)Unit processing is when each individual unit is done each year.

)The Mark 1 was invented by Howard Aiken in 1944. It was the realization of Babbage’s engine.

)The main logic of first generation computers was vacuum tubes.

)The stored program concept is that programs are broken down into numbers and stored. The first computers to use this were, EDSAC and EDVAC.

)The two languages for first generation computers were machine language and assembly language.

)Second generation computers replaced the vacuum tube with the transistor.

)Machine dependent is the term that describes programs that are only used on one machine.

)Two new input devices for the second generation of computers were tapes and disks.

)Second generation computers used core memory as a storage place.

)IBM introducing the System/360 marked the 3rd generation of computers. The main logic system was the integrated circuit.

)Family concept means that instead of just one type of computer the line would have many different features all compatible with each other.

)Upward Compatibility is important because you can upgrade your computer without reprogramming it.

)Time sharing was not popular because of the introduction of the minicomputer.

)BASIC was written in the third generation.

)Microminiaturisation is how we fit more and more circuitry into smaller micro chips.

)LSI and VLSI mean large scale and very large scale integration. This means that computers get smaller and smaller.

)The first successful microcomputer was the Apple.

)Unbundling is selling all the hardware separately. This created a market for independently produced software.

)Semi conductor memory began to replace core memory during the second generation.

)Computers are easier for businesses to use because of semi conductor memory, LSI and VLSI, Microprocessors, Micro computers, software, and more user friendly programming languages.
