I want to order a PIII server , but what about the support ? ffeingol 11-28-2001, 10:32 PM Well you could check the rackshack forum (forum.rackshack.net) to get an idea of what their support is like. No offense to them, but I think it might take them a little time to get up to speed on the Linux boxes. They have only supported RaQ's up to this point. Frank DomiNET.net 11-28-2001, 10:33 PM i have a cobalt raq with them. Support is very good richy 11-28-2001, 10:33 PM they would appear to be a little busy at the moment. the box we got took quite some work according to our sysadmin and wasnt setup very well. also beware as yet upgrades are not available, we want plesk ram and hdd and none are currently offered. oh subdomains count towards your 200 domain limit btw on plesk. ram and hdd aint a problem on the p3. right tech support. we when ive asked theyve been quite good, remembering their moving 2500 servers at the moment. the ftp issues have yet to be fully resolved but its being worked on. the best way to get info is thru their irc channel, patrick mark and obi are very helpful (not saying anything about the others cos i havent spoken to em). they still dont have 24 7 noc cover but its coming i think. being up to speed on plesk and redhat is a must. also check the forums on rackshack, see what the general atmosphere is. good luck Honu 11-28-2001, 11:09 PM Aloha what do you mean it was not set up correct ??? can you explain more ???? richy 11-29-2001, 07:24 AM i cant pretend to understand all the technical issues. but switching to our own nameservers caused a problem. the firewall another and the ftp is another. from what i gather it was a default install job. without much attention to configuration. im sorry i cant be more specific. Honu 11-29-2001, 02:43 PM Aloha OK thanks ;) Patrick-EV1 11-29-2001, 10:47 PM It is a default configuration, it's setup just vanilla with Plesk installed over top of it and the rest of the configuration is up to the Administrator of the server. :) There's never a way to anticipate what hundreds of different server Administrators are going to want, so we leave it up to them to configure/install it the way they like. If you have specific issues with the server setup that we may be able to rectify in future installs please feel free to email me at patms@ev1.net, but as of right now we do an out of the box install of RedHat 7.1, configure the network, install Plesk and the Plesk license and then hand the rest to you. :) And just for more awareness we use the Standard install of Plesk rather than the RPM install and this installs things in different places than people are used to, which may be one of the confusions. By default from the RedHat install we dont install FTP, webserver, firewalls, etc.. anything, per Plesk's recommendation to us when they came down we just do a mostly blank install with the essential files and drop Plesk in on top of it. I hope this clears some of it up and as I said, if you have a specific issue you think we should address, feel free to email me at the address above. Honu 11-29-2001, 11:58 PM Aloha and Mahalos for the info poeta 11-30-2001, 01:38 AM Originally posted by Patrick-EV1 ... but as of right now we do an out of the box install of RedHat 7.1, configure the network, install Plesk and the Plesk license and then hand the rest to you. :) And just for more ... Would rackshack install a "plain" RH 7.2 ?? (should be the standard!!!!... 7.2 corrected many bugs from 7.1)... TIA Marcos Patrick-EV1 11-30-2001, 10:03 AM It may be something we consider for the future; however, at the present time we wont be offering a plain linux box. :) scott2 12-04-2001, 12:16 AM I think poeta meant a plain 7.2 install + Plesk instead of a plain 7.1 install + Plesk? Or does Plesk not support 7.2 yet? Rehan 12-04-2001, 12:23 AM Plesk's web site advertises "Plesk 2.0 for RedHat 6.2 & 7.1 and FreeBSD 4.x". So RH 7.2 doesn't seem to be officially supported. But people in the Plesk forums have reported some success with PSA on RH 7.2 (http://forum.plesk.com/showthread.php?threadid=834)... kmh465 12-04-2001, 02:22 AM thank u very much , but do they fix problems ? I know how can use plesk or cpanel3 only. its your server, they are only responsiable for keeping it running (reboots, part replacments, power, bandwidth). Recomend you get a Linux book and learn at least the basics of linux... |
