View Full Version : Google search being "hijacked"?
oonth 05-20-2004, 06:14 PM I run over 50 queries a day on google. In past few days or so I have been noticing increasing number of "fake" results from all these wannabe search engines under different domains(Blowsearch.com,2020search.com etc. etc.).
Its really annoying me as most of these are coming on page 1 and page 2 of the results for almost anything I search.
Anyone else notice this trend?
xyzulu 05-20-2004, 06:16 PM Have you made sure you are free from syyware/adware?
www.lavasoftusa.com - download adaware.

gina_ 05-20-2004, 06:28 PM Dummy windows terminals? What is that?
Douglas 05-20-2004, 06:29 PM Actually, rather than lavasoftusa.com, use www.spywareinfo.com More features and goodies... and yes, AdAware is linked there...

Have you used Google Deskbar. Its great because you can search without opening a new browser window. It has its own mini viewer and you can set your own customized searches. I never knew about it till today

It's pretty cool isn't it.... Gave it a whirl a few months ago.
Maquiavelo 05-20-2004, 07:29 PM What really disgusts me from Google searches is when you search for 'dubious' things and you get those:

Anyone have seen this?, and no is not a trojan

Yes its cool. I just now customized it to look up domains in different registrars' whois search.
Google is cool. The DeskBar is pretty cool.
siplnettech 05-21-2004, 03:03 AM Its a good thread for me, I am subscribing to this :)
I suffered similar thing some time before and thanks to spybot which totally removed that from my computer. As far as i know this happens when a spyware or adware installed in to your computer and redirect the search querry to differnt location. Correct me please here, I need to learn more in this subject.
Thanks and best regards
Arun

Joseph_M 05-21-2004, 10:28 AM Use HiJack-This and Adaware, it'll get rid of that filth! The problem you're having is with a toolbar-hijacker which is also affecting your searches. Run them both, and with HiJack-This make sure you check all boxes for those programs you don't recognise before clicking Fix Checked.
This will kill those blighters!
BennyG 05-21-2004, 12:37 PM Hijack-this, Adaware, and SpyBot Search&Destroy, the 3 must have software... plus PC-Cillin 2002 (Virus Defs updated daily) & Windows XP SP2 RC2... My windows has been running completely fine ever since.
ambirex 05-21-2004, 02:06 PM I think zaid2001 is talking about google bombing, not spyware. And yes I think it has gotten worse.
siplnettech 05-22-2004, 12:08 AM Hijack-this, I have not heard yet. hope it will be good. Thanks for this link. :)
