Hi everyone -
About five days ago I changed the dns settings for my domain (this isn't the first time), and it STILL hasn't propagated. When I do a whois, the dns records appear (whois from multiple places btw) to be the new ones. When everyone visits my site though, they are still brought to the old server, I'm extremely confused because I've never had this happen before. Has anyone heard of propagation taking over 72 hours?
Thanks for your time!

It's all depends on the registrar. Also if the DNS records show the update on the web and you still can't access the site, the problem might be on your ISP's end as they need to update their DNS servers as well.

I believe the problem could be the TTL (Time to live) setting on the SOA (start of authority) record within DNS.
The TTL tells other servers how long to cache the information.
You can run "dig domain-name" on most Linux/Unix boxes to get the info. If now, post the domain name and I'll run the command.

Sure Frank, if you could run that for me - that would be excellent. I don't know how to go about doing it in the first place :-p.
Thanks!

K, it looks like it should be cached for only 4 hours (4H).

Call your ISP and tell them to clear the cache. If you see it at the registrar as pointing correctly then its the ISP's fault. Before you call hold down the control button and hit the refresh icon.

Good luck getting your ISP to clear their cache :D I have cable modem via Time Warner and they seem to cache things about 6x what it should be.

I don't think its my ISP though, my friend is on the same cable provider as I am (lives about 3 miles away), and he can view my site on the new server.
If someone could just do me a fav and let me know what you see when you access my site, that would be very helpful:
- A 403 Forbidden page means you're seeing the old server
- A regular page means you're seeing the new server
I've also cleared my computer's cache and ctrl-f5'ed a gazillion times. Thanks for your help!
