hi guys. i just registered with tera-byte and it seems coo so far, just waiting for the domain to show up. anyway, while i was setting up the account i was messing with the chmods or various folders because i wasn't able to pull up my site but i found out that i had the wrong url... anyway, i think i got the chmods back to what they were supposed to be but i'm not sure...

all the sbin, httpd, etc. folders should be 755 right?
/home should be 751?
/home/myemailaccount 711?
/home/myaccountname should be 700?

are those right and did i miss any other important directories?

etc. etc.

actually it would be cool if someone posted a full list of the recommended/default dir permissions, sort of like a faq.

i think this would be good for everyone to know and maybe you guys can recommend some more

bin, sbin, httpd - rwxr-xr-x
tmp -rwxrwxrwx
/home/username - rwxr-x--x
/home/user/mail - rwxr-xr-x (755)
/home/user/cgi-bin - rwxr-xr-x

File/Directory ownerships are also important.

I guess that's it.... :)

Have a great day :)

Amar

thanks. i got another question, how do i make directories not require to have a ending slash to send the index.html file?

for example

www.mydomain.com/blah

instead of mydomain.com/blah/

thanks

oh and one more question (sorry, i'm new at this paid webhost/domain stuff, i usually used free ones)

is it ok after the domain is regisered to take some info out such as my address and phone number, because anyone can get those through the whois and that kinda sucks ?

thanks again

Hi!
You must maintain your domain details. It is for your good..
The other question, index.html t o come up you must have document root set to index.htm, index.html, home.htm etc....

Have a great day :)
