Hi,
I am looking for some help....

I want to start a new hosting company, now what is the best way to go about this in terms of the actual server?

Would my best option be to use a reseller account to cut down costs and then move to a dedicated server when I have more customers?

But this would cause a problem with users who already host cgi scripts etc when it comes to switch over to a dedicated server as the paths for files etc will be incorrect

What is the best way? Any help on this would be great
Thanks
Dave

it depends.

if you dont' have knowledge of adminstrating your server then you must go with reseller account. if you know how to manage an dedicated server then you may go for dedicated server.

if you are totally new then i suggest go for reseller plan with the host providing good support and pricing. after some time you can always switch to dedicated server. ;)

Hi,

Reseller accounts are the cheap option and good for beginners however we found that the following could have become a problem

If you try to run a business, you have very little actual control over the servers and are completely reliant on your provider

The actions of your customers can also reflect badly on yourself, even though they are not supposed to, but it happens.

Remember to charge enough to cover costs of moving to a server at a later stage, as they are more expensive, as it is no good having a £5 a month plan as a reseller when it will cost you £6 to have it on a dedi-server.

Hope this is useful

Many Thanks
