Hello,

I want to provide a service similiar to Internetseer.com

- ping ports every certain period of time ( like 5, 10, 15, 30, and 60 min)
- alert while email and/or pager
- daily, weekly, monthly stats email to members
- the more features the better.

Does anyone know where I can find that software/script that works on Linux?

NetSaint is a program that will monitor hosts and services on your network. It has the ability to email or page you when a problem arises and when it gets resolved. NetSaint is written in C and is designed to run under Linux, although it should work under most other *NIX variants. It can run either as a normal process or as a daemon, intermittently running checks on various services that you specify. The actual service checks are performed by external "plugins" which return service information to NetSaint. Several CGI programs are included with NetSaint in order to allow you to view the current service status, history, etc. via a web browser.

It's quite cool in my opinion.... :)

We use Netsaint right now (have been since we started). Excellent software. A bit quirky to set up at first, but runs very nicely once it's up.

Big Brother (http://www.bb4.com/) is another monitoring script. Personally I like Netsaint Better (that's what we run). The problem with both (for what I believe you want to do) is that you have to install software on the remote computer in order to monitor it.

Check out http://www.demarc.org I have used them all in pretty large environments in the past, I would say netsaint takes a very distant 2nd to demarc. It monitors ports as well as IDS, etc.

Yea, I have to agree. I've just downloaded and I'm going to try installing it tonight. I was already playing/looking at Snort, so this is just a bonus.

Check out www.atwatch.com... it gives you all of this depending on the plan you select and may have a reseller/partner program.

They have a 14-Day Trial but I think the ping timing is set at like 30 or 60 minutes but check it out. I use it and like it.

i think demarc is better except now i am having database connection connection errors, it isnt finding the username for the database even though then are defined...

I have the same problem with Demarc, even if I use the root login and pass (only to test it), then I got a 500 Error.
