Note that even if you've seen 'longer' lists, some updates 'eat' others so to speak, and include the old updates. The old patches are then removed from the lists.
skylab 11-27-2001, 11:15 AM this might help a bit for the security schtuff.
http://forum.rackshack.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1374
when i got my 4i, i immediately shut down telnet and installed the ssh pkg, then went and installed every other pkg on the offical cobalt site (http://www.cobalt.com/support/download/raq4.eng.html) from the bottom of the page up EXCEPT the kernelupdate. then i did the mysql & php updates from the unofficial cobalt site. then webalize. then neomail. then i went after the security stuff(ipchains + pmfirewall + logcheck + rootkit).
have any questions feel free to PM me.
it's a blah day in vienna today.
Angel78 11-27-2001, 02:13 PM OpenSSH 2.9p2 this ssh package or is tehre any better ones outhere? and yes is MySQL 3.23.37 the current version that is aveilable for RAQ's because on the cobalt site you can find webalizer 1.3 and there are packages for 2.01.
skylab do you have PhP with or without GD installed?
skylab 11-27-2001, 02:23 PM i'm pretty sure that's the most up to date PKG that's available for the RAQ. in regards to both the SSH server/client & the mysql PKG. i hope they're working on new updated PKGs, but, you know cobalt. i wouldn't hold my breathe on that one.
i have PHP without GD installed.
and i have the 2.01 webalizer and most of the other PKGs from http://cobalt-aid.sourceforge.net/files/ installed rather than the 1.3 webalizer.
did you end up getting a rackshack raq?
Angel78 11-27-2001, 02:40 PM :) yes afterall we got one of theirs raq's and i have to do all the PGK's this week (few exams in the comming period & 1 tomorrow :)). You ll be staying here until summer or am i wrong?
skylab 11-27-2001, 03:30 PM is a new raq from rackshack given to their customers completely bare, in terms of PKGs?
we're heading back home to the US for the holidays, then we're coming back to wien.
Angel78 11-27-2001, 03:34 PM well i did copy and paste what was installed as we got it + php 4.0.3 and mysql ahm 3.23.17 or something like that is it normal to get mysql installed on a RAQ ? (ok it s the old thing but ...hm)
i m leaving wien on 14.12 and should be back somewhere around 29.12 or day or two later.
raq was online 10 min after we signed - up :)
skylab 11-27-2001, 05:15 PM i'm pretty sure that RAQ4's do not come with mysql installed out of the box. but, maybe rackshack adds that on and a few other things.
Angel78 11-27-2001, 06:55 PM mysql
MySQL Support enabled
Active Persistent Links 0
Active Links 0
Client API version 3.23.10-alpha
MYSQL_INCLUDE
MYSQL_LFLAGS
MYSQL_LIBS
this what i get on phpinfo (mysql) part. Do i instal new MySQL pgk over this one or do i have to uninstal this one first?
skylab 11-28-2001, 04:40 AM you should have gotten a PM from me angel.
also, be sure, if you want to use mysql with php, you catch the part unde the cobalt package about adding a line to your php.ini
Angel78 11-28-2001, 02:48 PM ok me again :) what is the main differnece between PHP with and without GD will i be able to run webalizer 2.01 without GD version of php? i red somewhere that this GD version may cause a lot of troubles when installing but im going to instal this on a "blank" raq so i guess it should not cause such trouble..or am i wrong?
skylab 11-28-2001, 02:55 PM i'm running PHP without GD & webalizer 2.01 and everything has been fine. i believe it's some sort of image support in the GD that's lacking in the without GD version.
i haven't had a problem in almost 2 months. so, i'm fine with the non-GD version.
Angel78 11-29-2001, 10:43 AM some of the patches require reebotng... can you install all of them and than do one reebot or do you have to reeboot after each patch?
skylab 11-29-2001, 10:46 AM hmm.
i'd just go ahead and do the reboots as necessary, not just install all at once. just so, you'd know if, after the reboot, your raq is dead, you'd know which PKG it was that killed you.
