I came across this about jumpline moving about half of its customers to freevsd. http://www.idaya.com/news/whatsnew/testimonials_jumpline.phtml?

Any comments on this software?

Thanks

I've been playing with a Virtual Server FreeVSD account for the last few days as a customer, and so far, it's been very interesting.

The jury is still out, but so far I'm able to do everything I was able to do with a Shared Server account, with more control of the actual "server" tasks than I had before.

I'm hosted with Caged Tornado (http://www.cagedtornado.com) for this exercise, and Dan is doing a fine job supporting what is really an early release of the FreeVSD software.

I really like the security of having a "private" server. No one will ever surf your filesystem with a CGI program from another account on the server and read your config files - that's for certain.

I been using it for the last month or two, testing it. In all honestly it is pretty complicated, and I have run into a few bugs, or errors if you want to call them that. Overall it is pretty cool software and I hope to impliment it soon

Hi!
It is a beautiful piece of code.
However personally I do not think it is ready for the production environment as yet.
It's just a thought however.
Have a great day :)

Amar

Hehe, I agree with thewitt I too like to experiment and learn new things. So when I saw the opportunity, I just sign up with www.cagedtornado.com and I am glad that I did. I wanted someone that can point me in the right direction when I get stuck or break something on the server. Dan was always there, this is what that makes me real happy. I am also a reseller but I will be one for a long time since I also found a fine Host www.splashhost.com ... With Dan and Alan & WHT Experts here. I will be a real pro one day.

Have a nice day

We are also looking at this at the moment. The new ProVSD seems pretty interesting but the pricing is a little confusing and my high after you add everything up. But then again this may be that I don't totally understand it. I've spoken with them several times. We are still testing it and we'll see if it's something that we'll add to our product line.

The next question is also how many people will be interested in it. Once we get these answers we may just go ahead and put it in production.

We've been using it commercialy for several months now and we had no problems nor complaints from our customers.

It's not a very simple product so it's not for the faint of heart. You really have to know linux well enough to be able to set it up correctly so you don't have any problems down the road.

Once set and configured correctly it provides a nice solution for virtual servers, although setting and configuring it is not a trivial task.

It is definitely not a piece of software for the faint of heart. It is not a prepackaged thing. You have to know linux administration very very well to implement it. However, it is extremely powerfull and very stable. I am not sure who said it isn't ready for primetime, but many very large hosts are already running it.

Their support rocks. Yeah we paid for it. :) But it just plain rocks and their accents are just "lovely." ;)

We are working now on what type of CP will work well with it and then we will be releasing it for products, kind of the step before you get your own colo thing.

The pricing for proVSD is high, I got the email about it. I think that using either the CD version or the downloadable one would be good enough is you dont want to spend the money.

Yeah, I was actually talking about their ProVSD one which you have to license. It's high also.
