Hi,

Question for you domain registerring experts... :)

If you have your own domain at a place like namecheap or godaddy or registerfly and you want to transfer it to a different domain registrar (not personal ownership transfer), is there any downtime for the domain? What about when you have your own ns1 ans ns2.yourdomain.com registerred as nameservers with your web host and your domain registrar, will there be any downtime when you switch registrars for that domain? If so, how long?

Also, lets say you want to offer your client 1yr free domain registration but want them to be responsible for it after that, how do you handle the set up of that? register it yourself on your own Credit Card and then a week or 2 later switch them as the billing contact?

Also, if you have a domain that is up in about 24 days with Network Solutions, and you want to go with a cheaper registrar now that it is due, is it possible to transfer it now? Or is it to late for this year and you have to pay NetSol the $35?

Thanks!

Their should be no down time for the domain or for the name servers. It simply just switches over.

Well, if you want them to pay the registrar directly, then I suppose switch them over, though I'd think you might want to send them a bill for the registration about 30 days before it is due and see if they pay it (make a few bucks).

24 days you should still be fine, but do it soon in case there is a problem. Stop reading this and DO IT NOW!!! :D

Now here is a question for ya. I am in the process of transfering over my domain from Network Solutions to Dotster. It expired 30 days ago but I still have complete control over the domain. What problems will occur?

Chances are, NetSol will just deny the transfer due to the outstanding balance.

That sucks. So I have to register and pay netsol another $30 when I can get it for less than half that price. Damn that netsol

Speak of the devil. I just got a message from netsol stating that they denied the transfer because the domain was expired.
