Hi guys,

I recently aquired a new European client who is having difficulty paying with his Maestro card. Does anyone know if Paypal accepts maestro? from what i can tell it is a member of the mastercard family, and therefore should be taken. I may be mistaken on this as i've never had experience with this card type before. When the client attempts to add the card to his paypal account as a master card it asks for the security code, and apparently the maestro card doesn't have one so he's unable to add it.

Any advice would be a great help,

Thanks

I'm not sure whether they accept Maestro, but it is indeed part of the MC family. I've heard that you can try to enter 000 in the case of cards with no security code. Haven't tested it, however, since all of mine do.

Best of luck.

Maestro is an ATM card. Not a creditcard.

Put it in an ATM machine with the maestro logo (most), type your PIN code and you get money (if you have sufficient funds in the bank that is)

You can also use it to pay in shops that carry the maestro logo but again it works with a PIN code which you must enter on the terminal.

Well i'm almost positive you can use the card to purcahse products online. I've also heard that it is the european equivalent of the Switch card.

But that's about all I think.

Not quite correct...

Maestro is a debit card, which can be used in many stores both online and offline worldwide. Switch, which is the UK version of this brand, is actually being rebranded as Maestro in the near future. Maestro can also be used to withdraw cash from an ATM, but it is not its sole purpose.

Switch is also a European card as far as I know.

Trust me, I have several cards that carry the maestro logo which I use to pay my daily groceries but creditcards... they are not. There is not even a number on it.

Maybe there are maestro cards out there that do carry some sort of card number though? Many countries, many banks and even more card types...

Ok, I stand corrected. From maestrocard.com:

Millions of consumers like you have discovered the vast selection and personal convenience of shopping online. With a few clicks, you can have a best-selling book delivered right to your door, or send flowers to loved ones.

Soon it will be easier than ever to visit your favorite web shops and make purchases with your own funds—right from your desktop PDA, or mobile phone—using your Maestro-enabled card.

If your bank has not already contacted you about activating your Maestro-enabled card for web usage, you will first need to contact your bank to make sure they are currently participating in Maestro e-commerce.

Next, you will need to register with your bank, so they can activate your card for online use. You'll find that making online purchases will be as simple and secure as shopping outside your home.

And watch for exciting special offers when you shop online with Maestro.

Not a credit card, but a debit card, and debit cards can certainly be used to make online purchases. Switch is indeed a European card, but the brand is being replaced by Maestro in the immediate future. European Maestro cards, at least, do have numbers on the front just like a standard credit or debit card does.

I have a similar problem. I've registered Business acount in Paypal then i saw that i have to add credit or Debit card to get "Verified" but when i tried to add my Maestro debit card(Germany bank account) i saw that there isn't Maestro in the list of card types. So have you found a solution?
