View Full Version : Do you still see yourself as a webhost 10 years from now?

Webhosting seems like such a thankless job. What makes it worthwhile to you?

Do you guys (and girls) ever get little things like postcards, thank you notes, Christmas cards, or any token of appreciation from your customers?

If a customer sent you home-baked cookies, would you eat them, or have it tested for poisoning? A silly question, but there are some unhappy customers out there...

That is of course if web hosting is still needed in 10 years

I see myself on a sunny beach ..retired :)

just kidding ;)

10 yrs from now? That's a long time. Heck ....in internet years that is basically forever.

Web hosting will be around as long as there is an internet and ppl who want to share their ideas. Guess we will just have to wait and see. Maybe something better might come along?

Nah! :D

I doubt webhosting will be around in 10 years from now. In fact, I doubt the Internet as we know it will exist 10 years from now...

It will exist but not as we know it. This is what scares me

In 10 years everyone will be snorting net dust like in that PS9 commercial.

In 10 years we'll probably all have our own high-speed dedicated lines so we won't need webhosting.

It will probabley going to be like

"Man you only have a t3 line into your house? Why don't you upgrade to high speed?"

That would be the payments they make me each month

Yes, each month they put money in my bank account as token of appreciation.

Seriously though, maybe it is normal in the USA to do such things. Life in Europe (where I happen to live) is a little more unpersonal.

I give them webspace, they give me money. That is about as far as it goes.

Same in Canada. I can't imagine getting Christmas cards from one of my clients, it would be a little weird.

Yeah right. We may have high speed lines in our homes in 10 years, but that doesn't mean we'll have air conditioned, UPS Backuped, gas generator, secure server rooms in our homes :)

Didn't anyone see the commercial (it was actually for playstation 2, but they used 9 to show advanced they'd be by then) where the guy like snorts the playstation particle things and then suddenly becomes part of the game?

No, is it a new commercial?

...those hosts that charge $2.50/month for 750MB disk space and 20GB bandwidth will be out of business for charging too much. :D

Charging money for hosting? You can do that? :)

i'm with the others here, hosting and the net will probably be so different in 10 years, but whatever it morphs into.. we'll all probably still be into it, in whatever way it evolves. as for myself, i've always sent e-cards to my hosting providers on x-mas/new years.. and i've even recieved a thank you card from a client before. working in this industry to me is worthwhile just to see all the neat sites our clients make, and to help them out, it's just a cool job in my opinion. :stickout

I thought for some time. Then realised I'm not the authority for it... :)

Nice question anyway.... :)
