If you were to start a new company, which domains would you register in order to protect your business and to avoid cybersquatting, and do you think that any of the new domains like .ws/.nu etc. will ever be a good alternative to .com/net/org?
.com
.net
.org
.cc
.ws
.tv
.nu
and so on!!!
If you were to start a new company, which domains would you register in order to protect your business and to avoid cybersquatting If you're talking about doman names in your company's name, only .com and .net -- none of the rest are worth the trouble. The idea that you have to "protect your business" by buying the equivalent from each of the newer tlds, while repeated endlessly by the vendors of each of them, shouldn't really be a concern.

.com & .net
Possibly .info if you wanted to maybe do a support site separately.

.ws is the new .gone
I've been to maybe 2 .ws sites. One of which linked back to the .com version. They're too dang blasted expensive too. The .com/.net/org stuff has me spoiled with the $10/domain year pricing.

I would register the following:
.com
.net
.biz
The .org/.info/.etc usually are forgotten by the masses; the three listed will give you a solid foundation and excellent resale power.

Isn't .biz like $50 a year?

"The new .com?" What makes it that? An overwhelming majority of users still think dot-com when they think of a site address. To most users, an oddball address ending in something like .ws -- in spite of their marketing people telling you it's the new dot com -- looks odd, and is hard to remember: no matter how many times the marketdroids say it's easy because "it stands for World Site!" to the run-of-the-mill surfer it means nothing... it's just odd.

hehehe... mhmmm Just like all the nice people at all the other places selling things give me the "real" information. Went to a computer show and just about every merchant we went to gave me the line "You don't want to trust those other guys. You get them to lower their price and they start putting cheaper parts in!"
Don't always trust the mule selling himself as a stallion.
