Yes, they went into voluntary administration about a month back. I was using them as an ISP and got this message:

(received 26 Oct)
Please be advised that as of 8 November 2001 Asia Online will no longer offer Dial Internet services in Australia as the Asia Online group of companies in Australia is now in Voluntary Administration. This means you will no longer be able to log on to the Internet or send and receive email with your Asia Online
Dial account.

However, we are delighted to announce that OzEmail Internet, one of Australia's oldest national ISPs, has agreed to offer continuity of your Asia Online email service and Internet connection.

As for hacking, I'm not entirely surprised. That was the only message about it. No prior notice.

Ozemail?? Last time I checked them they were overpriced. I say last time, as the last three times I've tried to go to their site it's crawled and never loaded. :)

I remember Asia Online when they first started here. I forgot to check them out again after that - looks like it was a good thing I didn't...

OzEmail seem alright. $30 odd dollars (forget exactly, and that's AUD of course) for unlimited hours and 650 MB download. Could be better, but it's reasonable at least.

The annoying thing is that AsiaOnline took over a lot of very good local ISPs, and now they're all gone.

That's pretty good actually. They used to be a lot more. If I can ever get their site to load I'll check it out. Right now I'm using iPrimus, which is about $30 a month for 450meg download. Seeing as even on a 56k line I'm pulling close to a gig a month overage means I'm paying close to $70 a month *sob*

I was going to get a plan with Optus and tie in my cell phone ona single plan but it appears they only do that for land lines.

Seeing as I also pay for a $30(US) a month connection with Earthlink as well, just keeping my fiancee' and myself online is a pretty number *lol*
