someuser 05-14-2004, 04:19 PM Okay, this very moment my cat (toby) is with a sex persian lady.
Now, toby is so manish to prove himself, and she is dead horny...
However toby is like sniffing and meawing a lot... what do you recommend them to do?
Keep toby for the night with her?
Keep them seperated?
Because toby is like anting to attack the girl but afraid or something...
is this normal?
suggestions and feedback ARE needed
(for those who have past experience of course)

if you are allowing your cat to mate, id say that is quite irresponsible.
i say that only because you asked for an opinion.
someuser 05-14-2004, 04:59 PM I asked an opinion on what to do.
Not on wether to have them married or not.
Thank you anyhow.
aggidio 05-14-2004, 05:01 PM what a funny subject to talk about on WHT :)
Project X 05-14-2004, 05:01 PM animals dont get married
you asked what to do, im telling you
someuser 05-14-2004, 05:05 PM Well... why not?
How would they ever grow in number? or atleast, maintain a number...

How is letting your cat mate irresponsible? I had cats (Well my parents this was quite sometime ago..) And we mated them because we wanted a few more, but didn't want to bring strange cats in the house, It was much better to have her mate and keep the kittens with the mother..

Shouldn't that be "suggesting" ;)
Anyhow, I think Lauren is trying to point out (in her own way) that there is an over population of cats/dogs. By spaying/neutering it helps to keep the population in check.
Mating to keep them is not the issue. She is referring to the offspring ending up in a shelter (where they could be put to death) or on the street.
Odd Fact 05-14-2004, 05:35 PM Sorry to get off topic. But I add to Luaren's statement.
Just check with the Humane Society or SPCA websites. The numbers I saw were based in 2001. An estimated 8-10 million cats and dogs were euthanized in the US alone. This only counts animals that are in shelters.
Another thought most major cities use gas chambers to euthanize animals. I will not go into detail here because I am sure some would get squimism.

If people never let cats mate, then there would be no kittens in the world and therefore no cats. Some people enjoy having cats.
It's not irresponsible. Irresponsible I figure would be letting your cat go out while you know they're in heat or whatnot.
This is only my opinon however. :-)
JWise 05-14-2004, 05:58 PM Me... I don't believe in fixing animals. Dogs and cats and all animals were given what they have for a reason. What right do we have to take it away from them. We must be responsible and maintain them.

Very true.. I got my dog from the SPCA, but I was to late, they already chopped off his junk...
Project X 05-14-2004, 06:41 PM humans were given what they were given as well... so should we do as the animals want to do? overpopulate and get pregnant all the time.
man, show some respect!
thanks to those of you who understand what im trying to say :)

some of them do. in fact there was a thread on this recently that a judge jumped in and ordered them not to have any more kids.
so I agree - no overpopulation.
someuser 05-15-2004, 01:10 AM Well first I don't know where most of you people posting come from, but I don't think you can generalize this issue since you don't know how it is being dealt in each country.
However, all the replies are being off topic. That's not what I am asking people.
Now concerning what you people are talking about, I won't make toby get kids and let them off on the streets... there is a huge number of people here who adore to have cats... and they don't. Certainly getting a cat off the street won't help.
Now, BACK to our MAIN topic, what do you suggest?

okay.....
So.. You have a child and realize you don't want anymore children. So, you go chop off the male organ. But hey, no problem there, we're helping the world by not overpopulating it, So what if the male feels like a female now.
You know, time after time, I've seen shows where females really wanted a man to do something about their organ. If a man does something to his organ, like getting it removed.. that man doesn't feel like a man now.
So, I think getting a dog fixed is taking away that dogs pride.. that dogs self-esteem.. that dogs confidence..
So.. Who are we showing respect to fixing our dogs and cats.. I thought we loved our animals.
Maybe doctors should come up with a birth control pill for animals or something...
But, taking that away from anything is wrong.. regardless of your reasons.
I bet if the government came to you and said.. "NO MORE KIDS" you would have a fit and protest.
Just keep the male and female away from each other when their hot..

It all boils down to if your ready to take care of the outcome.. If your not then keep them away from each other no matter what.

As was stated, there is already an overpopulation of domesticated animals... if you really want a cat, go to a rescue shelter and get one, before it is put to sleep.
anon-e-mouse 05-15-2004, 02:27 AM If they are going to mate, they will do it when the time is right. They won't need help from the members of a hosting discussion forum.
