I hate hosts who offer misleading bandwidth as part of their package, and they make you feel as though you are paying less. They tell you that you only pay for bandwidth used, for example:
ONLY $1 per gig of bandwidth
Until you read the fine print and it says:
MINIMUM 15 gigs per month
lol...

Pardon me ... I don't see anything really wrong with that. It's actually a good deal! Well, it would be better if they say "As Low As" instead of just "Only", but then ... this is not comparable to those offering Unlimited Bandwith hosts ... Not even close!
BTW, some hosts offer me to buy 200GB of bandwith to get $2/GB ... So $1/GB for 15GB is easy!
cheers,

yes it should "say as low as" and it would of been nice if they allow you more then 15 gigs. but you know people are doing anything now for customers
But the point I didnt make clear is that you go to the website, and if you have a site you dont expect to be high bandwidth, you sign up thinking that you'll only be charged that $1 if you stay below a gig, follow? Unless you read the fine print you dont realize you have to pay for 15 gigs...

Is $15 really that big an amount?

If all companies offer the "pay what you use' scheme, is there money to be made at $1 per GB? I don't think so.

It wouldn't matter if it was $2. It is more than the perceived price.
Although I believe, as a consumer, I have an obligation to read and understand every piece of "small print."
Sadly though marketers will often find ways of hiding some costs.
Or, at least, making it difficult to understand what you're buying.
To me, if a company were to make the statement on the signup page that bandwidth can be purchased for $1GB, I would expect them to honor that statement.
You shouldn't have to dig through a mountain of text to find their true pricing structure.

They should really put an asterik * next to the $1 bit. That way the customer can know that there's a fine-print :)
$1 per GB of bandwidth *
* Minimum purchase of 15GB

- Asher... That's exactly what they should do.
how would you feel about an ad like this?
FOR SALE:
Brand new XYZ Car
JUST PAY $1 per mile driven! *
Most people would jump at the offer, but smart people would have to scroll through pages of TOC's to find that small little '*' and see that there is a minimum 99.000 miles required....
SoftWareRevue understood my point :D

I'd buy such a cheap car lol hehe. No actually i too understand your point.
The point is that it's deceptive -- at least it's an attempt to deceive at least some number of people. If they weren't trying to hide their real pricing, they'd just say something like "$15/month, plus $1/gig after 15 gigs."
I wouldn't do business with a host that makes such an offer, because one attempt to deceive customers is enough to demonstrate the mindset that's in place. These aren't people who can be expected to be straightforward and direct with you in the future.
