Illegal or offensive content, UCE (spam), and IRCD are not permitted. Onsite technician services available at $150 per hour, with a one hour minimum. Reboots are provided at no charge as long as we do not deem them to be excessive. All pricing information contained in this offer applies only to this offer, and are only available at the time of signup at the advertised rates.

Order now: https://secure.plusweb.net/~colorack/order.htm

Q: I want to order, but have some more questions. How can I contact you?

A: You can get me on ICQ 3000984 if you have questions, I'm usually online between 9AM and 11PM almost continuously... If I don't answer immediately, I'm not in front of the computer at that moment, but I will get back to you. Feel free to e-mail sales@colorackspace.com if you don't have ICQ.

Q: After I order, how long will I have to wait to receive access to my server?

A: We have a number of these on hand, but please expect 5-7 days delay depending upon demand. Ordering upgrades, such as extra hard drives and/or memory, will increase the time it takes to get your server online.

Q: How long will your offer be avaiable?

A: Not sure how long at this point. Get them while they last. Like it says above, this is a limited-time promotion.

Q: Can I get an IP address of something inside of your network to run some tests on?

A: Feel free to traceroute to www.colorackspace.com to test the network.

Q: Do you offer Plesk with this deal?

A: We do not have any agreements with Plesk to distribute it to our customers at this time. This does not prohibit customers from purchasing it and installing it on their own. If Plesk becomes a highly demanded option, we may contact Plesk about establishing a distribution agreement.

Q: Can I swap Cpanel/Webhost Manager for H-Sphere?

A: Not at this time. Just as with Plesk, you should contact them directly to purchase this product.

Q: How long has Colorackspace in business?

A: Colorackspace is a new division of its parent company, Plusweb Communications, LLC. Plusweb has been in business since July 1994.

Q: Can you tell me more about the company and it's future goals?

A: Colorackspace will be providing low-priced bandwidth products. Further information will be available on our webpage shortly.

Q: Do you have any SLA's available?

A: Not at this time. Our SLA is a work in progress.

Q: What is the "Atlanta NOC" referenced in the post?

A: There is no "Atlanta NOC" as you put it. This is a common misconception - "NOC" is not synonymous with "data center." Our NOC is in Anderson, SC. Our data center is located in a carrier-neutral facility in Atlanta, Georgia.

Q: Since this is a special offer, how much are your regular prices for this dedicated server?

A: We don't have regular prices at this time, this is a brand new one-time offer.

Q: Is the RAM expandable? What options are available for upgrading the server, and how much do they cost?

A: Most of the motherboards we get in only have two DIMM slots, and they are utilized by the two sticks of 256MB. To upgrade to 1GB of RAM, we have to use the more expensive low-density RAM that will work with the Intel i815-series of motherboards. SCSI is definately not an option with these servers, but feel free to contact us for a custom configuration. There are no upgrades available other than what is listed above for these machines at this time.

Q: Any possibility of getting one of these with FreeBSD?

A: Not at this time.

Q: How much are daily backups (per month fee)?

A: You can do this by adding a second hard drive into your system. However, beyond our installing the drive in the machine, it's your responsibility.

Q: Can you use these servers to host client sites?

A: Absolutely.

Q: What is Cogent bandwidth? Is it reliable? Why so cheap?

A: Cogent bandwidth is provided to us by Cogent Communications, a new nationwide network. You can find out more information on their network by visiting their web page at http://www.cogentco.com. We've been very impressed with Cogent so far.

Q: I need very good uptime. How is the uptime on these servers?

A: Since we started using Cogent on August 1, we've seen well over 99.9% uptime. Cogent has never been down, but we have had problems with the demarcation between us and Cogent, which should be corrected when we begin connecting directly to Cogent shortly.

Q: I need support, emergency phone support if possible.

A: Yes, emergency telephone support is available. As stated above, support is billed at $175 per hour for issues other than basic reboots.

Q: Are things like mySQL and different Apache modules installed?

A: We do a standard Redhat 7.2 Server installation. Beyond that, it is your responsibility. Webhost Manager/Cpanel takes care of installation of most of the mySQL and Apache stuff if you should choose that option.

not to be rude but it says "Add DarkORB Cpanel/WHM for $75 per month " So It is DarkORB.

I added the "DarkORB" part after he made that post... it was an oversight on my part. I was just trying to follow the forum rules. :)

But would you really call it competition of the RackShack deal?
Only thing I can find to be the same is the bandwidth offered is the same amount in GB. (Different type and price though)

I will wait to agree with you ... Pricewise, yea ... it's wonderfull! however, Rackshack also offer BGP4 with 4 other providers besides cogent ...

But, besides that, I agree ... the price is really cheap ...

It's my fault. Jeff asked me to move his virtual hosting clients to the server where Plusweb, Colorackspace, Serverhost, etc.. are hosted, and I screwed it up. The server is online (IPs work), but domains aren't resolving (thus, all email isn't working). We're still working on. I take full responsibility though, as it wasn't Jeff's fault at all.

Also, this doesn't affect any other servers. They're all online and pumping Cogent bandwidth like there was no tomorrow.

qps
11-28-2001, 12:24 PM
Yeah, I apologize for the problems with our webpage... With the moving around we were doing, it kicked Bind and Apache offline. Luckily, it only affected a handful of virtual hosting clients for a few hours, and our webpages for a little longer than that.

They are in the Atlanta NOC.

I have a server with them (not this particular deal) and it bursts REALLY well.

The usual 9mb file from uu.net...
VO = 487k/s
Plusweb/Serverhost/Colorackspace = 2.47mb/s

Only downtime that was not server related was I think a router went a month or so ago. Can't remember if it just slowed the site down or if it went offline though.

Nice deal

James

Now... how about upgrading my 100gb a month to 300gb for plugging ya? ;)

There is no comparison, NAC far exceeds cogent. If transfer is destined for the cogent network NAC peers with them at MAE-East. Comparing NAC to cogent is like comparing UUNet to cogent.

Well, you would need at the very least Webmin (www.webmin.com), but for an easier approach, pay extra per month for Plesk or Cpanel.

Jeffrey won't add domains/emails etc unless you wanna pay him $170 or whatever he quoted for costs :)

So basically, these servers come with no admin software.
Webmin is free
DarkORB Cpanel/WHM is $75 per month
Plesk is something like $699 one off fee
I have CPanel on my servers.

Jeffrey installs whatever is on the distro - so if it is RedHat 7.2 he will install PHP/Perl/Apache etc that is included with that.
He wouldn't install latest kernals/security patches unless you paid him to do it.

You get a vanilla install - everything else is down to you. I know I keep on mentioning it but Cpanel installs all u need - ie latest PHP/MySQL/Perl/Apache/Bind etc so no need to learn how to compile them.

I really am not slating Jeffrey - just wanna make people aware that the server they will get will require at least some kinda knowledge on how to admin a server.

Once u get the server, Jeffrey deals with getting it on the net, any hardware issues but not the running of it ie if you need more IPs he will give you them, but you install them.

Thanks for your response ;) but i dont think it's the right thing for me then.

I dont wanna spend all my time worrying about the server (if something fails etc etc) and if my mathskills arn't failing me then it's 215$ a month insted of 150$ (still VERY! cheap).

it does seem like a wonderful deal. it's about time to see some competition to rackshack. i hope it keeps up.

lundorff.
a dedicated server is much more involved than standard virtual hosting. if you're looking into a dedicated server, check out the RAQ4's. they're between $89 - $100 per month depending on what company you go with and they have a pretty basic control panel that focuses on ease of use as far as adding domains, email addresses, etc. etc. of course, you'll still have to do some command line stuff, so, basic linux or lots of reading in the WHT RAQ forum would be required.

Yeah, we tried to send him an e-mail about it, giving him the opportunity to provide us with another credit card, and the e-mail we sent came back as "Permanent Error: Undeliverable" because the e-mail address did not exist. He had verified that this was the correct e-mail address, and even fraudlently sent e-mails from this non-existant address (we contacted the System Administrator of the domain name to confirm that this e-mail account does NOT exist).

I told this customer that everything about this transaction pointed to a fraudlent order, and that unless we could get another credit card number that we would be unable to complete his order.

I hardly think that we behaved inappropriately. Any host here would have tried to contact you to let you know of the problem. When the e-mails bounced back as an invalid e-mail address, we cancelled the order. On ICQ, you were bombarding us with requests for us to try to run the credit card again, etc., so we blocked you from sending us messages.

I certainly hope that everyone can understand the amount of fraud that goes on through the Internet, and that when everything in a transaction points to a fraudulent order, that we will not complete the transaction.

As much as I have disagreed with jkhehe in the past, I am totally on your side here

Fraud and internet security is a major issue with most internet companies and also being in the hosting world, as soon as my credit card company would say its fraud I would actually email the person and personally no except credit cards from that person anymore.

Jeff at least gave them the opportunity for another one,

Good job

Have some questions:
I am in need of server and am researching for possible purchase this week or next.

1. What is cogent bandwidth? Is it reliable? Why so cheap?

2. I need very good uptime, I have tried RackShack and their uptime was terrible. How is the uptime on these servers?

3. I need support, emergency phone support if possible.

4. Are things like mysql and differnt apache modules installed?

"hi my mail is oguzg2@softhome.net anyone can try it and see it is working or not exist or not ?
i think the thing he writes we contact with softhome.net and this account doesnot exist is funny(ehhe i am using that mail for 4 years)"

I told this customer that everything about this transaction pointed to a fraudlent order, and that unless we could get another credit card number that we would be unable to complete his order.

"he say my creidt card has high fraud risk i say it can be as most companies recognized my countries card have high fradulant risk it is possible i say i can directly send cash to him or can give another credit card he donot give me any response"

"first of all i must say this is my first real server(used raqs cpanelled ones in past but it comes with nothing) it is normal that i have too much question i apoligise for my questions alot fo times
in past.
secondly both have icq logs i sent alot of messages after i see you donot respond me(i donot know why you donot)
i say i can give my another card you donot respond what must i do ?"

also why a turkish address seems have too much fraud also want to add why donot you put my country to your order list i selected "others" becauese of i cant see my country may be it increases my card to be seem highly fradulent in your eyes

I certainly hope that everyone can understand the amount of fraud that goes on through the Internet, and that when everything in a transaction points to a fraudulent order, that we will not complete the transaction.

Sincerely,

why donot you say what thing point to fradulent? i see everything ok with my credit card it is latest cyber mastercard card that you can set its limit i think all my thing is true

edited to clean qutos thing (AND ADDED THAT SECTION(i lost time more importantly money and most importantly my reputation on other people that i promise about hosting.)
