Hello first off i will say i am at about a 1% knowledge level of software and operating systems other than win 2000

What we are looking at doing is going into a dedicated game server business we would need no webserver installed on the machine just the game and a control panel for the admin to run the game expected transfer a month is 60-100 gigs at its highest
10-20 at its lowest

We do custom pc builds for our local area here and i can build a 1u server with a nice processor and other stuff for around 350,

What would be the best way to go on this dedicated or maybe do my own colo, and is purchasing rack space basically the same as going colo ?

Thanks for any advice you can give me

Well, it sounds like you want to colocate your new 1U server. It would probably work out cheaper for you in the long run. If you are not comfortable running your own server, then a managed server may be a better solution (but it will cost you more)

Also, with game servers you should pick a provider that a good network with nice response times.

Hope that helps!
