Can anyone reccomend a cheap, but relaiable CC processor that allows the merchant to charge in £'s (GBP) ?
Even better would be one accepting UK based cards... if there are any?

Revcom (http://www.revcom.com) has one of the best CC processing services out there and they offer it in over 100 different currencies.

2 Problems:

No business account yet :bawling:

To avoid charges money would be sent by cheuqe causing delay :bawling:

Any that will wire to an account outside the US free?

Then try 2checkout.com They don't require a business account.

Well the problem there, is that all payments would be sent by air mail cheque, unless I pay $36 a pop for wire transfer.
Hence further delays...

Try Worldpay (http://www.worldpay.co.uk)
They have a office in the UK so there wouldn't be that much transfer costs. You also don't need an merchant account.
Hope it helps.

Worldpay seemed expensive compare to the others, anybody used them?

Worldpay are UK based, so they would offer the best cc processor if you want to charge in £ sterling, but they are slightly more expensive than the others.

I have used 2checkout in the past, and they have been pretty good, so I recommend you put up with the delay that it takes for the cheque to be sent, and go with them.

Revecom no longer requires a business account.

Just a point.. I'd think long and hard before looking for a 'free' or dirt cheap system to handle billing. As far as the growth of your business goes, few things are more important than getting billing right. It's fact of doing business that you'll be charged for that service. It's well worth spending a little extra to make sure they're there tomorrow...

We use Worldpay. They are very good and professional.
Neither are they very expensive. At I think 120 pounds a year with 4% charges they are quite low as they are no other charges involved.

We are very happy with worldpay. Very flexible and nice .

Have a great day :)

They didn't a while ago, but they no longer require a business account, so they may have changed their policy on this. Contact them and ask...

Quote from support

You would require a business account, the cheques are paid out in either USD or CDN. And lastly, an account can be set up in as little as 48 hours.

You can still pay a cheque in USD into a British bank account.... it is converted into GBP taking into account the current conversion rate, and a small admin fee is charged i think (a small percentage of the amount)

Business account is not needed for both revecom and 2checkout. I just received a check from revecom but I am going to have them transfer future payments to my bank account (because I have one and it is easier and cheaper for all).

Im kind of leaning towards 2checkout now.
I do work in a bank over here (HSBC) but im only a lowly cashier

My mother works on reception that deals with foriegn conversions. We know jack, we are just told - if we werent trained in it, send it to reception!

Worldpay actually works out cheaper for us that stay in the UK.

With 2checkout/revecom, you will be charged around $30 per month just for cashing the $US cheques alone. Then theres the 5.5% fee and 45 cents.

With worldpay, you pay £150 year and pay 4.5% fee. Costs 35p to withdraw to a bank account every week.

Worldpay is also a merchant account unlike 2checkout/revecom.
