as far as i know its more secure.

I use it because its much faster and doesnt leave big logs everywhere. Some people might want to have logs for FTP though.

this is the best software ever. not even joking. if you need features it doesn't have, write them in before going with something else, 'cause it'll be worth it.

Personally I prefer proftp. The last version is very stable.

my customers prefer pure, due to the faster login times.

pureftpd + mysql

pure-ftpd has this particular feature that i see to be quite useful to webhosts. it's the one which runs a script after a file has been uploaded. a couple of things i think you can do with it:

check for questionable file extensions (.mp3, .rar, etc)
add it to a list of 'newly uploaded' files, and then periodically copy these files to a backup server
