If you look at all the nominees for the past polls you will notice that they all have helped out a lot. We don't pickk just anyone and before the next poll comes out there is always a thread where people nominate people. So I am sorry if you feel that way...

I believe 3 out of the 5 people on your list are either hosting companies or provide hosting services.

one_web, how did you come out with the nominees? does that your own opinion, I'm quite confused since you're not a mod on this forum. Anybody care to explain it to me?

Anyway, I vote for Dektong for his posts and his beer.

SWR very true, as most people that frequent this board are hosts in my opinion. But I think that one_web should edit his post and delete the *The member must NOT be a host nor a reseller. Must be a regular user. Space and Bandwidth to be announce. Prize may change without notice. part as 3 of the 5 nominees are hosts, and are affiliated with hosting. I would have no problem voting for someone, but the disclaimer throws of the voting.

I think what they mean is to claim that prize you can not be a host, but you can still be the winner. For obvious reasons, a host wouldn't need the prize of hosting.

Although it's josephp's recipient restriction, it seems . . . . well . . . . restrictive.
I am a host. But I do have sites hosted by others. So, it's not like a host couldn't use some free hosting.
And, as someone eluded to earlier, there seems to be a lot of hosts that hang out around here.
So, the chances of someone winning "Member of the month" honors and not being a host are small indeed.

Hello,

Greetings to all of you. I will like to make a offical announcement in regarding the prize.

Yes, I made the rules becuase I felt it is right, the regular member should recieve the prize. However, if the winner is a host nor reseller, HE OR SHE CAN donate the prize to anyone of their choice upon agreement between me, the winner and the donation person.

Do I make myself all clear? I hope so :)

<edit: please get approval from matt before you post this>

Have a nice evening! :)

Cheers,
Joseph

Mean moderator butting in here...

As I think I mentioned before, please ask Matt for approval if the prize is going to be your hosting services. The whole thing is nice and all, but maybe this should be done in Related Offers/Requests, or Web Hosting Offers. Please just pass it by Mr. Matt if you are thinking of posting anything about your services in the Main forums, okie dokie pokey...

Yeah, I'd ask some questions, too. Does WHT want to be associated with this? I mean, I've had my differences with the mods and all, but letting this type of thing stand in the face of the forum rules and this gem from the hostilizer site, come on.

"Consider, too, our newest data center—the latest in a series of advanced Web hosting complexes we're building around the world."

So, tell me what other data centers you've built "around the world" and when exactly you built this "newest one".

That seems to be a bit off topic, but as a side note (again off topic, sorry), I've edited a post that I missed earlier. Overall, I think this is a nice thing and I don't want people to get the wrong impression that recognizing members is bad, just that if this sort of thing is going to happen in the main forums, maybe things like prizes should be donated to Matt (the forum), and he (or we) should somehow run this. Someone please contact him off forum and pick his noodle about it, just so this is fair to everyone.

Again, hate to be a moderator-like about this, especially when the intentions are so good, though maybe the prize could be world-wide recognition for the time being, until all of this is ironed out a bit more.

muppie
11-24-2001, 04:28 AM

And the race is on...

Rewdog seems to be taking an early lead but wait here comes Dektong with the fast catch up, oh he looks like he really wants it. Choon, cperciva and Sesran seem to be staying close together but there not out of it yet folks.

Looking back Dektong and Rewdog are still neck and neck. They take the corner and Rewdog appears to pull one in front. Stay tune and we will continue exciting coverage of this race only on WHT!

Yes, if you don't mind. What I'm thinking is that the prize should be somewhat standard, like 1 yr. hosting 50 MB/2GB transfer or something like that, donated by various hosts. I don't have a problem with the co. name being attached to the prize (as that's pretty standard in any type of donated prize contest-type thingy).

As I said, members recognizing members is a great idea, and a nice touch. I think some parameters wouldn't be a bad thing. It is hard for us to run it as quite honestly, there are so many members here who take time to help people that I really don't know if I could pick one, but I suppose we could try. There are a lot of great people here.

I can think of people like cbaker17, akashik, jag, jay or JBIZ718 (yes .. even Joe) .. that deserve sutch a nomination just for their help in the forums :)
