Any good reseller plan like donhost.com? Their Unix reseller version, that is.

Thanks.

Thanks. There are lots of different reseller plans available. Not many like DonHost's though.
I just hope you have done a search here and read everything about DonHost. ;)

Donhost is as good host ... they just oversell data-transfer .. but they are good.

I forgot to ask ... how much data-transfer do u need ?

I was with DonHost for several months.
I will tell you now thta sure the services are good BUT
£15 /gig ?!

But thats not the worst.
There support is TERRIBLE, they once said (when i asked for a dns change to point a subdomain to an irc server) that all IRC users and Admin (like myslef) are a "menace to the internet".

The then proceeded to delete accounts due to mp3 (that were the site owners own work) when they assured me they would NOT. After many broken promises I gave up and moved to MC host :)

I suggest you do a search on DonHost to see why people dont like them!

Hello.

Mchost is good too, but doesn't donhost offer more features? Am checking mchost.com at this very second, but it limits disk space and bandwidth, and donhost only limits bandwidth [correct me if I am wrong please].

So, wouldn't that make donhost more favorable? Also, hmmm, didn't know that about their support. Will search these forums now for donhost and read previous posts about it.

The biggest problem I have with DonHost is that they have no way to disable a domain that goes over their limit.
They charge you way too much for exceeding bandwidth limits, yet give you no way to control your preset limits you give your customer.
A customer or yours could use 100gigs over and you would just have to pay the bill
I find that a very disturbing practice on DonHost's part.

Hello.

Hmmm, I did a search and looked at the posts regarding donhost, and not that many good thoughts about it. Yes, their options are really expensive, and so are their extras, like bandwidth. 15 pounds would be like 19 dollars I think, which is expensive and I don't think I can get that much from a customer if they are the ones going over.

Interested in mchost, but, for the starting plan, 1 gb disk space and 8 gb bandwidth, is that enough do you think?

Also, is there a demo of their control panel, and can we control everything like disk space and bandwidth and make our own custom plans?

Copied from MCHost's site:

You set your clients' account limits!

And, I believe, McHost uses WHM/cPanel.
Their starter plan is just that.
It should be plenty to start with.
As your business grows; so can you.
Why would you want to buy more than you need?

If find Cchost very suitable, Donhost support is the worst I have ever come accross. And ive spoken to BT tech support :P

Really I would recommend MChost, if only for the support. They have very active support forums, these guys are online so much I dont think they have had sleep for months!

Hello.

Ok, Mchost looks good, and their support is fast also.

Will sign up with them soon.

Any other advice you can give me please?

Thanks.

*shakes head*
hell no.

Donhost is terrible from what I see. They were the worst when 2 of my friends were hosting with the. They had so many problems with them it wasn't funny --;;.

To put it all in perspective.

Donhost:
- good package
- lots of apparently good features
- really tight locked php functionality (some would argue too much)
- misinformative marketing spiel (mailing lists!?)
- lousy communication
- been known to kill whole accounts wiped clean because of a reseller clients misdemeanour
- unannounced account closures, system changes, limitations
- support good/horrendous dependant completely on who picks up the phone or answers the email
- BOTTOM LINE: Glad I left.

MCHost:
- good package
- reasonably features
- good communication
(although you rarely need to send a little prompt)
- announcements and warning where possible
- warning of any problems with your clients
(disabling sites where appropriate)
- EXCELLENT support willing to go that extra mile, including code suggestions, etc...
- not too cheap
- BOTTOM LINE: Value for money!

I said "they oversell there data-transfer" .. so ppl who use more than 50gig data-transfer should get a dedicated server ... or just pay the £15 per GB ..... that price is quite cheap for the UK.

I personnally run my own servers in the uk and the us ... and found the UK bandwidth prices to be 3:1 ( for ever £3 i spend for bandwidth in the uk .. i spend £1 in the us )

Bottom line : Donhost is good for people who want to resell hosting without worring about webspace and managing a server(s).
