View Full Version : cheap web hosts
abcdefg 11-23-2001, 05:27 PM can anyone please tell me some links to hosting services that have packages that cost 20 or less a year?
(free hosts that support domains are fine)
Please don't say I should want to pay more....
Any comments on the service would be great!
IGobyTerry 11-23-2001, 05:51 PM Two host come to my mind, they are 2MHost.com and Valuablehost.com. 2Mhost is $1.50 a month, while Valuablehost is about $2 a month. I haven't had any experience with either of them though so I can't comment on the quality of hosting they provide.
Quill 11-24-2001, 02:42 AM Visit http://getmehosted.com for plans that started for only $10/year!
edude 11-24-2001, 03:05 AM Getmehosted = :) :) :) :) :)
Martie 11-24-2001, 03:27 AM Also a good idea is to visit some of the host directories and search for one.
http://www.hostsearch.com
http://www.webhostdir.com
Both these directories have the option to enter your specifics (disk space, price, etc) and then it will search for providers that meet those requirements.
This is a good way to compare some....and coming back to the forums, etc. for feedback.
Good Luck
 just realized I was thinking in terms of 20 a month, not year...but you might have some luck with the directories anyway..wouldnt hurt to try it...
djpowell 01-26-2002, 09:03 PM Doteasy.com charge a one-off $35 to host your domain for life. They are not the most reliable host, but they are among the cheapest.
AlexNguyen 01-26-2002, 09:09 PM They're a new company, so you'll want to do some of your own investigating, but I'm pretty happy so far with my cheapo play account. I even bought a Plesk reseller account from them to host my friends' sites with. Shawn and company have been very responsive so far support wise.
knockingknee 01-27-2002, 10:15 AM I have had an accouint with them since last week and there's been no problems so far.
Sign-up took less than 24 hrs
Very good prices for the reliability and features offered
I guess I'll prefer Cpanel to Plesk though..that's my main grouse.
astralexis 01-27-2002, 03:10 PM 34sp.com (http://www.34sp.com) is 16.80 USD /year with 400 MB /month of traffic, if you need more it costs more...

$20/year?!? I can't figure out how this can maintain good uptime and server cost. You might want to start looking at least higher than $20....I remember some host offering $20/year or less hosting and all they did is ended in the dump.
And as I am writing this post...valuablehost.com is down....see what I mean.
Cyberwings 01-28-2002, 02:04 AM I have to whole-heartedly disagree with this statement. I can only speak for Cyberwings, but we maintain very high quality, excellent up-time AND fast/courteous support for our sites - regardless of the cost of the site itself. Some of the lower costs hosts build their businesses around volume, steady growth and personal one-on-one attention.
Low cost doesn't necessary mean low quality......

ValuableHost charges $150 a year for a plan comparable to yours that you charge $40 bucks for?
Are you saying you're twice as good as the host that charged $20 a year and ended up in the dump?
Guess that would make ValuableHost four times as good as you.
And as I'm writing this post . . .valuablehost.com is up. . .see what I mean.
djpowell 01-28-2002, 05:14 AM Paying a lot for a host doesn't mean you get better service than a cheep host offers, it usually just means someone is being greedy.

I think this person simply wanted any URLs of sub-$20 hosts. The subject of whether $20/yr. accounts is enough to float a company is an entirely different thread topic.
