Sorry if this has been asked already many times. But it changes virtually from day to day and week to week so it seems.
Question: Which is the best .com reseller in the UK or Europe?

I am suggesting that www.123-reg.co.uk are the best for .co.uk domains, but their .com names are hugely more expensive than the international companies such as godaddy or enom.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

just wondering why would you go with uk/europe based supplier rather than cheap US based ones?

you can always use namecheap/registerfly/etc.. for cheap domains.

For a European there are at least two good reasons to use a registrar based in the European Union (and preferably in one's own country):

1) EU companies are bound by EU privacy laws (rather than the practically non-existant US ones)

2) In case of disputes it is much easier to take action in a local court (such as small claims courts here in the UK)

I am currently using a US-based registrar for GTLD domains (for historical reasons, and because changing would be such hassle), and I have my own Nominet tag for .uk ones so the question of registrars doesn't arise. If I had to start from scratch I would definitely go for someone within the EU.

because most people prefer to deal with a *local* supplier - easier for contact , same ccy, close if something goes wrong etc

the poster asked about *BEST*, why deos everyone answer with "cheap" ?

If he is looking for "best" I would say LCN (http://www.lcn.biz) , I have always used this company for my domains. If he is looking for "reasonably" cheap and "good" , I would say 1and1 (http://www.oneandone.co.uk) , the only reason I did not use them is they would not let people change nameservers , now they do I don't see any reson not to use them.

And he was looking for European one that is less expensive - not an unreasonable thing to look for!

i cant even find out how much they charge - *BIG* ad claiming 9p for .uk's when they *actually* mean 9p/year on top of the Nominet fee - standard uk2 style sucker-advertsiing methods

to get a price on anything else seems to invole a serach for it and signing up - no thanks

if you want a low-cost alterantive where everything's automated try ukreg.com - £9/yr for single years, discounts iof you buy in bulk - opensrs reseller and under the uk dpa etc

Excellent points, I had wanted a UK/EU solution just for the reason that your domain is actually small and relatively inexpensive but it is such an important thing. It represents a small but extremely important link in your online presence.

In the UK it is easier to find out if a company is good or bad, eg through trading standards, internet, companies house, credit checks and as this gentlemen sais, ultimately the small claims courts.

Yes orthello £9 equals almost $17. so now if that is the cheapest in europe for .com what is the explanation for being 3 times more expensive than other internationals? I don't understand that point.

www.123-reg.co.uk are quite good when you get past the automation machine. Excellent value for .co.uk but then there is a big bump when you price the .com's I think they are about $12/$15 per year maybe more. I'm not sure.

£9 equals $17 - probably the way the ccy has moved lately
thats a "single" price as i said 0- you get discounts if you pre-deposit not sure how much, no longer have an account with them, but it used to go as low as about £6 which *AT THE TIME* was $9 :p

Yes, I think it's the tumbling dollar that has made European registrars more expensive. They kept their prices when the dollar fell (instead of reducing them in line with the exchange rate). Most European registrants won't notice because the price they pay hasn't changed, but those who actually take the trouble of converting prices into dollars will realise that they are now paying more for going through a European registrar.

In the grand scheme of things does it really matter if one pays a dollar or two more? A couple of dollar won't even buy a cup of coffee...
