View Full Version : Cheap & Reliable Host
abcdefg 11-22-2001, 05:39 PM Can anyone name me some links to websites that host websites for $20 or less a year?
These are the features I need:
perl
php
cgi-bin
allows .htaccess
mysql databases (1 or preferrably 2)
sendmail features
100mb
2 or 3gb
& phone support
& be able to have 30 days whether to see you get your money back or not (preferrably, but not necessary)
Please don't reply saying that I should be willing to pay more and etc.
I use www.affordablehost.com for one of my sites, and they are great! Price is right on target, but the only thing they don't have is real live phone support. They have a pager system, that will send them your number if you have any problems.
One of their packages:
Option 3:
100 MB Storage
2 GIG Traffic
100 POP/SMPT Accounts
mySQL database
FREE DOMAIN NAME
Check out their site!, I love them!

in my opnion i think that is going to be very hard to find, especially with the phone support.
that would be $1.6/a month! anyways good luck in your search...;)

Actually, that's not entirely correct. :)
We have a HelpDesk for tech support, as well as AIM and ICQ for live general support. If you want to get our attention, but it isn't a true emergency, you can page us with a message.
We DO have a phone number for emergencies listed on our website - and it is 24/7/365. If you ever HAVE to get ahold of someone at AffordableHOST - you can call us.

In order to go $20 per year with that package - we would need to cut some major corners, overcrowd our servers and fire most of our support staff.
You are not going to find what you want at that price...and expect to get decent service. It's a mathematical impossibility.

Oh, sorry about that, I misread the posting. They have another package for $25.00/year. Check that one out.

abcdefg 11-22-2001, 09:07 PM Ok, thanks, I just wanted to see whether there were any hosts cheaper than hosturbo.
I have been reading alot about that hosting service in the forums, but no one has actually posted how many down times it has, if the staff are helpful and etc.

You may want to head over to www.yourhostsucks.com they have a whole sub forum for them. Browse it and see what you come up with

Quill 11-24-2001, 03:49 AM I know one site that offer cheap per year plans. In fact, I've also suggested this at another thread just now. Take a look at http://www.getmehosted.com, it's cheap as hell, but not sure for the customer support part though.
UmBillyCord 11-24-2001, 04:10 AM phone support
No one suggested here has this. A pager for emergencies isn't phone support. Phone support is providing regular hours where a customer can call and receive support. hosturbo.com doesn't have your requirement of phone support either. If you really want this, you are asking for way too much for $20.00/yr.
edude 11-24-2001, 05:02 AM Tinae? you changed your name?
