View Full Version : Any VPS Hosts having own network?
jackel 05-04-2004, 11:59 AM Hi,
Just a simple question?
Most of the vps providers here are on a shared network, Looking for vps providers having own network.
I think linode has its own network.
Dinix Sharing.
vpscolo Sharing.
audiungo Sharing.
powervps ?? dont know
any other?
Correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks.
dynamicnet 05-04-2004, 12:14 PM Greetings:
I am not sure what you mean "their own network."
NTT/Verio has VPS servers; they have their own data centers and connectivity (if that's what you mean).
Thank you.
jackel 05-04-2004, 12:21 PM A network is where servers are placed and connected to the internet provided by the network.
Many hosts dont have their own network hard to maintain (I guess) so they share or host on others.
Thanks.
Imago 05-04-2004, 12:47 PM Yes, if you want to spend some money, go to viaverio. Their network in The Network.
jackel 05-04-2004, 01:40 PM Verio nah.
like linode on the shore network, the same company!
any other?
thanks.

Thanks. Dinix is directly connected to Internap, and has a direct contract with them, and doesn't buy bandwidth or rent servers from anyone else.

Huminie 05-04-2004, 03:07 PM The Verio question is confusing the difference between network and backbone. Verio owns its own backbone.
Running your own network is different. It just means that the servers are connected via a network that is owned by the host. This could be something very simple, or quite complex really. Typically you would have a router between you and your upstream network provider.
Also, Dinix definately does run their own network which connects directly with InterNAP.
jackel 05-04-2004, 04:31 PM Right!
Having a network, backbone proportional to the stability of the host.
Huge investment means lesser chance for running away.
Application/content Stealing/hijaking also reduces.
People here dont see these things.
A person giving you a better support for now, who knows will not be here in a year or less as he is looking at the bigger picture.
Just my perception.
Thanks.
MGunnin 05-04-2004, 05:33 PM People here arnt as paranoid as you are, pick a good host.
If you had done research you would've found one.
xplora03 05-04-2004, 05:48 PM FDC has their own network as well
kb9tyc 05-04-2004, 08:36 PM servint.net

Thing is if you go with one with "their own network" it will usually be single homed which is bad, no backup solution.
retep 05-05-2004, 04:10 AM I've worked with some pretty bit network providers over the last few years. They certainly are not immune to going bust. (And nor are the smaller players, I guess).
Maybe instead of whether they own the network you would be better off looking at their history, feedback from customers, and the networks they use?
shraz 05-05-2004, 04:23 AM get a semi-dedicated
jackel 05-05-2004, 04:35 AM Problems can occur anywhere, I think we should be prepared for it all by ourselves.
Create your own backup solution, no one will be as ready and responsible for your content then you only.
And charge them for the services not given.
Save your own chicken.
Thanks.
sghost 05-05-2004, 06:55 AM You can try Rackforce and ServerInt. Both of them has their own network.
RackForce is connected directly to the web and owns 2 database centres.

piramida 05-07-2004, 02:26 PM "database centres"? that's something new.
servint has pretty good solid network. in fact, my ssh on their VPS is currently the first task on the taskbar, been up for 41 days now.

Dinix has their own cage/vault at e^Deltacom. While they are "directly connected to Internap," one big thing about their move was that they brought a couple extra providers into BGP just for failover -- I've never seen traffic flowing to/from my VPS on anything but Internap, but if for some reason their whole Internap feed went down, you're not dead in the water. (But as long as Internap's up, you're on it.)
It's not clear whether you wanted a place with their own datacenter and their own nationwide network, or just someone with their own cage and all like Dinix, but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

I should have keyboarded in:
