has anyone had any experience trying to get a CGI script approved by ***** ?
After I signed up (I wish I read this forum 6 months ago) I tried to execute a simple, simple, simple, CGI Script, a whois lookup ...
Ticketmonster tells me it needs to be approved first so send it to support@ blah blah blah ..
30 days later, after numerous requests, I have heard nothing.
So there goes the idea of reselling their service ... the CGI BIN anyway ...
has this happened to anyone else ?

yes, i know i should be slapped, stabbed, and shot, in that order, but ...
1. I didn't read this forum until this morning ...
2. *****, on paper, has the best deal going for resellers like myself ...
so, that is why I chose them, and until I either come up with a better plan or find a better company, Im going to try to stick it through ...
I think one of the reasons that they get bashed here is that the service that they SAY that they provide could be AWESOME ... it's a shame that they don't quite live up to the expectations that they have set for themselves ...
for instance, it says clearly on this page: http://www.*****.com/?zone=products/resellers_nt_chart ... that they offer MTS on reseller accounts ... come to find out today that, in fact, they do not offer MTS ...
techieboy told me that their website was underconstruction and this contributed to the problem... but their web site hasn't changed one line in the 6 months I've been hosting there ...they have falsely advertised, and continue to falsely advertise, that they offer Microsoft Transaction Server ...
so back to the CGI script approval ... can you believe that ?
They obviously ran into trouble with PERL Scripts crashing their Windows Servers (Approval is only necessary on Windows Servers) ...
Since no one is going to wait a month for a script to be approved, no one will be running CGI on *****s shared windows servers ...
So, they are also falsely advertising that they offer CGI Access when, in fact, they do not ...
I have had downtime problems with ***** in the past but to be fair I will say that as of recently I have had no problems other than evasive, useless, tech support ...

I think ***** already give you a whois lookup script for free with their unix accounts so i dont think you need to get that approved.

Whaaa!!!!
Asking your host permission to run a simple whois script?
NEVER!
So many other hosts that don't threat their customers this way. Leave NOW!

i have spent, literally, the past 12 hours reading nothing but ***** getting slammed in 99 out of 100 reviews written by a current/former customers ...
they are definitely going to get sued ... tick tock ... tick tock ...
why doesn't any other company pick up where ***** leaves off ? They obviously have something going for them ... ALOT of people are interested in the services that they offer ...
1. The ability to resell Unix and NT accounts
2. The ability to outsource customer support, phone and email
3. Virtual Name Servers
With the 1,000,00,000 worldwide people that hate *****, you would think that another company would scoop up the customers just like Burger King did to Mc'Donalds ... Same thing ... just better .... Here is the marketing plan:
"We offer everything that ***** offers. The only difference is, we actually provide it."
Believe me I am the last person to defend ***** but not ONE company offers what they offer ... The first company to truly implement the three services listed above will be a MONSTER in the web hosting industry ...

one_web ... maybe they do on the Unix accounts but Im on a Windows account ...
but this script itself isn't really what's bothering me ...
I can just run the script on one of my other hosts ... i could do it although this becomes an issue if I want to keep that information in a session variable ... switching back and forth from one server to another is sure to create a headache when it comes to session management ....
What bothers me about this is that I can't resell a service that makes users wait god knows how long to approve a 50 line script ...
I honestly don't think it will ever be approved, nor do I believe that ***** actively reviews CGI Scripts ... I couldn't imagine having to ask them to review a real PERL application .. it would never happen ...
what a waste of money and time ... it's offical ... ***** SUCKS

in all fairness, i must report that after i sent an email today to ***** telling them thanks for nothing, they have installed my cgi script ...
apparently it must have fell through the cracks ... this support tech actually answered me and said that script approval usually takes 2-3 days ...
