When I examin the log files there is no referer information except for our domain but many lines are blank. I think this might be due to the firewall or the fact that we use NAT to translate external IP to internal ip number. Any ideas or suggestion would be helpfull.

If absolutly no lines in the log have referrer information then you may simply have that field turned off in the logging. If you are the admin on the machine in question you can change what is logged on a per directory, per site or per server basis using the management snap-in. If you are on a hosted service there may be options in your control panel to alter this behaviour.

If only some are missing referrer fields, then your usuers may have their browsers set not to give out the referrer - or some proxy between them and you is not passing that information on. There is little you can do about this.
