I have just got a server yesterday with 2GB ram. I noticed that 1200MB of ram already occupied. I dont really understand how could it be. Any idea how to free up those ram. This is a redhat 7.1 with WHM/cpanel box

There are a few possibilities. First of all how many slots are you using? Is it two sticks of 1GB?

Other possiblilites are that you may have just checked it at your servers peak time. Another is that your CPanel is configured wrong and taking up extra resources. Another is that you have extra applications running that shouldn't be running. There are many possibilities.

There is definitely something wrong.
2 GB RAM, 1.2 GB used AND 400 KB swap space?
What processes are running?

how do you get top to display this

CPU0 states: 0.1% user, 0.2% system, 0.0% nice, 99.1% idle
CPU1 states: 0.1% user, 0.1% system, 0.0% nice, 99.3% idle

i only get 1 line on my Dual procesor machine.

Alan, maybe two different versions of top? On both my dual machines it displays two lines, one for each CPU (redhat 7.1)
